Dear Mr. Chairman,
We would like to bring to your notice the hapless plight of a student Rakesh Kumar (name changed) who happened to pay his JEE Main 2014 Application fees through the E-Challan of Canara Bank and could not get the confirmation Page in spite of payment before the due date. The student had paid his JEE Main 2014 Application Fees on December 7, 2014. We are attaching the image of his copy of the Canara Bank E-challan duly stamped and signed by the bank as proof.
To the student’s shock, the payment made by him through the Canara Bank E-Challan was not reflected even after a week. Frantic with worry, he tried the JEE Main 2014 helplines given on the JEE Main website. As has been the case with innumerable parents and students, there was no response at any of the numbers listed there. Careers360 has also tried the numbers many times with the same result. It was also one of the points of concerns that we raised in our open letter with queries earlier. Click here to see the details
Unfortunately the payment made by Rakesh has not been reflected till date. In the meantime, he had made innumerable trips to the Canara Bank and had always been told that the payment has been made by the bank.
On December 24, 2013, he finally went to the Canara Bank frantic with worry as the last date for the JEE Main 2014 Application was December 26, 2013. The Canara Bank Manager was categorical that the payment had been made by the bank and that the fault lay with the CBSE system. The Last Date for JEE Main 2014 is now extended till January 6, 2014
Afraid of losing the opportunity of appearing for the JEE Main 2014 Rakesh went and paid the fees a second time- this time at the ICICI Bank. His application fee has been reflected as a result of the second payment he made and he could print the JEE Main 2014 Confirmation Page.
The questions that arise on account of this incident are:
What is the student to do in such a situation? How does he/she approach the CBSE? There have been no means and methods mentioned in the JEE Brochure or website. The JEE Help lines are never available.
Will the student be refunded the fees that he paid the first time and which are missing from the CBSE system as per the claims of the Canara Bank?
What if a student cannot afford payment of the fees a second time unlike Rakesh who could pay it on time? Who will compensate the student in such a case?
Who is to be held accountable for the fiasco?
We at Careers360 are deeply disturbed for such students who are paying for the mistakes of the CBSE and the banks for no fault of theirs. The CBSE should ensure a proper complaint redressal mechanism in place for such situations so that students do not lose an academic year and an opportunity to try their hand at attempting the largest engineering entrance exam of the country – the JEE Main 2014.
We hope that the CBSE takes note of this serious issue and assures the students of an system that takes care of the elimination of such problems as well an opportunity to such aggrieved students to approach the board with the payment proof to avail the JEE Main 2014 Confirmation Page.
Regards
Team Careers360
