The authorities had released the application form for IIT Kanpur M.Tech admission 2020 on March 16 and earlier the final date to apply was April 7, 2020. M.Tech admissions to IIT Kanpur will be provided based on score obtained in GATE 2020. However, there are categories of students who are IIT graduates with specific scores, who are exempted from having a valid GATE score. The application form of IIT Kanpur M.Tech admission is now available in online mode. Students need to follow a series of steps in order to fill the IIT Kanpur M.Tech application form which are mentioned below:
Step 1- Registration: In order to fill the application form for IIT Kanpur M.Tech admission, the first step requires students to register. The process of registration requires them to enter their first name, last name, email address and date of birth. This will lead to the formation of login credentials which has to be used for logging in and proceeding with the further process.
Step 2- Application Form: After registration and login, candidates will be required to enter the following details:
Date of birth
Select Engineering Programme
Select candidate status
University name and address (Qualifying exam)
Qualifying degree and discipline
Year of completing the degree
Rank in qualifying exam
Qualifying year percentage semester-wise
Area of specialisation
Step 3- Document Uploading:
After uploading the requisite personal and academic details, candidates will be required to upload certain things. This includes a recent photograph (jpg or png format) and certain documents (in pdf format only having a maximum size of 2 MB). The documents to be uploaded are as follows:
Proof of date of birth
GATE 2020 score card (or any other national level test if appeared for and relevant)
Marksheet of the qualifying examination
Category Certificate (if applicable)
PwD Certificate (if applicable)
Step 4- Application Fee:
Payment of application fee is the last crucial step while applying for IIT Kanpur M.Tech admission 2020. Candidates will have to pay the following amount for applications depending upon their category:
For candidates of General/ OBC/ EWS categories: Rs 400
For candidates of SC/ ST/ PwD categories: Rs 200
It may be noted that the application fee for M.Tech admission at IIT Kanpur can be paid in online mode only, i.e. through netbanking/ credit/ debit card. One may not forget to note down the transaction ID generated after fee payment.
Step 5- Application Form Submission
Once the details, information and fee payment is done with, candidates may wrap the application process by clicking on ‘Final Submission’. This will change the candidate status that reflects ‘Applied’ against the IIT Kanpur M.Tech admission application. One should note down the application reference ID and also take a print out of the same.
Candidates aspiring for M.Tech admission in IIT Kanpur have to apply to the institute online in the manner mentioned above. Then the eligible candidates will be called for document verification for which, the following things need to be positively carried:
Print out of application form submitted
Receipt of payment of application fee (or transaction ID)
Original documents that are uploaded in soft copy with the IIT Kanpur M.Tech admission application
After applying through IIT Kanpur application portal, candidates will be required to separately apply through Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) in order to accept admission offers. This will be followed by counselling and seat allotment to be communicated to aspirants. Admissions will be done on the basis of GATE 2020 scores.
IIT Kanpur provides its students with a chance to have financial support by serving through teaching or research assistantship, which is referred to as Institute assistantship. The same is offered on a semester to semester basis for 22 months. Students need to have a valid GATE score for availing institute assistantship, however, this requirement is waived off for B. Tech/ BS graduates from IITs having a minimum CPI of 8. Additional assistantships might be offered from other organizations (CSIR, UGC, etc.) in the form of fellowships or scholarships.

mainly jrf recruitment is done by ugc net score, however institute like iit kharagpur, iit kanpur has lots of research fellow recruitment comes for students who are recently pass b.tech course , have interest for research in new technologies, interested to do phd in future ,should apply for jrf positions. however there is no specific number of recruitment do not comes every year, it depends on the projects and funding for hiring of jrf, however by getting good score in gate you may go for m.tech course and may apply for psus job.

Candidates getting admission in dual degree through JEE Advanced need not to appear in GATE.And the cut off will not be the same for dual degree through JEE Advanced and M.tech through GATE.Considering previous year cut off trends it is difficult to get seat in IITs with such score.You need to score at least 600 or above to have decent chances of getting seat in a IIT.
