    About JEE

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a crucial gateway for aspiring engineers in India, divided into two distinct phases: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE Main serves as the preliminary qualifying exam, and only those who perform well are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced, which is renowned for its difficulty and serves as the entrance test for prestigious institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITS).

JEE Main is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) twice a year, and candidates can attempt either one or both sessions. It consists of three subjects-Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics-each with multiple-choice questions. Paper 1 of JEE Main is for admission into B.E./B. Tech programs, Paper 2 is for B.Arch programs, and Paper 3 is for B.Planning courses.

The exam has evolved over the years; it was formerly known as the Common Entrance Exam (CEE) before the current format was introduced in 2013, following extensive advocacy for transparency by IIT Kharagpur Professor Rajeev Kumar. The introduction of the two-phase JEE system was aimed at streamlining the admission process and increasing fairness.

Interestingly, in 1997, the IITs had to re-conduct the entrance exam due to a paper leak at some centres, highlighting the challenges in maintaining exam integrity. The current admission rate through JEE has significantly decreased from 1.95% in 2012 to 0.92% in 2017, reflecting the growing competitiveness. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) manages the seat allocation process, ensuring a coordinated admission procedure for various institutes.

    Other Joint Entrance Exams

The Joint Entrance Examination is conducted as a national-level entrance test. However, many states conduct their own IIT JEE exam at the state level for admissions into various undergraduate programmes.
