Questions related to GATE

Hello,

Yes, you can still apply to certain M.Tech colleges that do not require COAP for admissions. While IITs use COAP for seat allotment , many NITs, IIITs, and other institutes have their own admission processes.

What Can You Do?

1. Apply to NITs, IIITs, and Other Institutes via CCMT

  • NITs, IIITs, and some GFTIs admit M.Tech students through CCMT (Centralized Counseling for M.Tech) .

  • COAP is not required for CCMT.

  • The eligibility is based on the GATE cutoff for your category , but since you mistakenly applied as General, your score may not meet the General cutoff in some cases.

2. Apply for Direct Admissions in Private/State Universities

Some top private and state universities offer M.Tech admissions based on GATE scores but do not use COAP , such as:

  • BITS Pilani (Direct admission or written test)

  • VIT Vellore (VITMEE exam or GATE score)

  • Manipal University

  • SRM University

  • Shiv Nadar University

3. Contact IITs for Category Correction Appeal

If your score meets the OBC-NCL cutoff but not the General cutoff , you can try:

  • Contacting GATE authorities (IISc/IITs) to check if corrections are possible for COAP registration.

  • Some IITs allow category correction appeals if you provide valid proof (OBC-NCL certificate before the GATE deadline).

4. Use Your GATE Score for PSU or Other Opportunities

  • Some PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings) recruit using GATE, and their application process is separate from COAP.

  • Other M.Tech programs (like sponsored seats or self-sponsored seats ) may not strictly follow COAP rules.

Next Steps

  1. Check NIT/IIIT admission through CCMT.

  2. Look into private universities with direct M.Tech admissions.

  3. Contact IIT admission offices to ask about a correction appeal.

  4. Explore PSU or industry-based GATE opportunities.

Unfortunately, you cannot use your last year’s GATE marks of 30.33 for admissions or PSU applications this year. Although your score was higher than this year’s cutoff (24), it didn’t meet the cutoff for the year you appeared (35), so it’s not considered a qualified score .

GATE scores are valid for 3 years , but only if you qualified in that particular year by crossing the cutoff. Since you didn’t qualify last year and also scored below the cutoff this year (18), neither attempt can be used for M.Tech admissions or stipend eligibility.

To be eligible for admissions or fellowships, you must score equal to or above the cutoff in the same year you are applying. So, even though your 30.33 seems good now, it doesn’t help unless it was above the cutoff when you took the exam.

Your best option is to prepare again and aim to clear the cutoff next year.

Hello,

A minor spelling mistake in your father's name on the GATE 2025 scorecard is usually not a major issue, and colleges generally do not reject applications solely for this reason. However, to avoid any complications, you should be ready with an affidavit stating the correct name.

When and How to Show the Affidavit :-

  • If the institute specifically asks for a correction, they might request the affidavit during document verification.

  • Some colleges may ask you to upload it during the online application process.

  • If there is no option to upload it, carry the affidavit and other supporting documents during the physical verification process.

  • You can also email the concerned authority of the respective institute if required.

What to Mention in the Affidavit :-

  • A statement that both names belong to the same person (your father).

  • Your correct details and the GATE 2025 scorecard reference.

  • Signature and attestation from a notary or gazetted officer .

Also, you will be eligible for IITs and NITs as long as all other details are correct. This minor mistake should not lead to rejection if you provide proper clarification during document verification.

Hope it helps !

YES, with a GATE score of 534 out of 1000, you do have a chance of securing admission to BITS Pilani (Pilani or Hyderabad campus) for the M.Tech. in Microelectronics or M.Tech. in Embedded Systems program. However admission in  BITS Pilani is quite competitive because the cutoffs vary based on several factors. Here i am telling you some previous year cutoff for BITS pilani

  • typically, BITS Pilani considers GATE scores and other criteria for M.Tech admissions. For Microelectronics and Embedded Systems, the cutoff may vary each year. In the past, the cutoff scores have ranged from 500 to 700+ for some branches.
  • Generally BITS pilani having higher cutoffs than hyderabad campus so it might be easy for you to take admission in Hyderabad campus.

If you are aiming for BITS Pilani and are unsure whether your GATE score will be enough for the program you're interested in, you might want to consider preparing for the BITS HD exam. The BITS HD (Higher Degree) exam is an alternative route for admission if you don’t meet the cutoff for direct GATE-based admissions.

Hello,

You cannot use your GATE 2024 scorecard for admission next year if you have not cleared the exam.

Only qualified candidates can use their scorecard for admission, and GATE scores are valid for three years . Since you did not qualify, you will need to appear for GATE again next year if you want to apply for admission.

Hope it helps !
