AIR of 459,840 and OBC-NCL rank of 166,762 in JEE Main , securing a Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) seat in a government or  private college will be very challenging .You can choose private institutions offer CSE programs and may have more flexible admission criteria. CSE degree from a top-tier institution may be challenging with your current rank.

Hello Karan,

With a JEE Main 2025 All India Rank (AIR) of 500,000 and belonging to the OBC category , securing admission to Parala Maharaja Engineering College (PMEC), Berhampur through JEE Main is highly unlikely .

Why Admission to PMEC is Unlikely:

  • PMEC primarily admits students through the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) and JEE Main ranks.

  • For Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) , the expected JEE Main cutoff rank is between 200,000 and 210,000 .

  • For Electrical Engineering , the closing ranks are typically under 250,000 for the OBC category.

  • Your rank of 500,000 exceeds these cutoffs, making admission through JEE Main improbable.

    Alternative Options:

  1. Apply through OJEE : If you're from Odisha, consider applying through the OJEE, as PMEC also admits students via this examination.

  2. Explore Private Engineering Colleges : Look into private engineering colleges in Odisha or neighboring states that accept higher JEE Main ranks or offer direct admissions.

  3. Consider Other Engineering Branches : While CSE and Electrical Engineering are competitive, other branches like Mechanical or Civil Engineering may have higher cutoff ranks, increasing your chances of admission.

  4. Lateral Entry after Diploma : If you pursue a diploma in engineering, you can consider lateral entry into B.Tech programs, which often have different admission criteria.

It's important to research each alternative thoroughly and consider factors like course offerings, campus facilities, placement records, and tuition fees before making a decision.

The JEE Main 2025 Session 2 Paper 2 (B.Arch/B.Planning) result has not yet been released. According to official schedules, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to announce the results in the third week of May 2025.

With 87.6 percentile in JEE Main and 950 marks in your IPE, you have a resonable chance of getting CSE at SASTRA University, Thanjavur. Previous year says that your 87.6 percentile roughly translates to a rank between 1,00,000–1,20,000 (approx.) .Board Marks-Based Admission (30% Seats), IPE (950/1000 = 95%) is very strong .Previous year cutoffs says you have a safe chance to get cse in sastra tanjavur university .

Hello,

Due to intense competition, it is unlikely that a candidate with a JEE Mains rank of 600,994 will be accepted into a prestigious government college for CSE. However, through subsequent rounds or spot admissions, some state-level government or less popular government engineering colleges may still have seats available in CSE or related branches. Considering computer science-related fields like information technology or electronics increases your chances of getting admitted. It's crucial to fully engage in counselling and take into account private or deemed universities as potential substitutes. Prepare backup plans and concentrate on performing well in state quota seats or spot rounds.

All the best.

The time needed to prepare for the GATE exam varies greatly depending on individual factors like study habits, whether the concepts are clear or not and etc...However, a timeframe of 1 to 2 years is generally recommended for serious preparation, especially if you're aiming for a good rank.

If your basics are clear and you are well known with the concepts then focus on pyq's and give mock tests and re-revise the syllabus. But if your preparation is not that much good then I would suggest that give a complete one year time and prepare well and then appear for the Exam.

Good evening ,

I hope you are doing well. As per your mentioned query, you should start study from basics. First analyse the syllabus and study from NCERT books. So it will make your foundation strong. After that get standard books for practicing. If you want to join any Institution for preparation then go for that.

Good wishes !

Dear Candidate,
With an 11.5 lakh rank in JEE main, admission to NITs, IIITs, or GFTIs is not possible unless you fall under special categories (e.g. , PwD or state quota in home state private colleges ).
What you can do :
-Apply to private engineering colleges that accept low JEE ranks or have direct admission.

Hello Aspirant,

Based on your details with EWS rank of 48,000 and 77 percentile as a female candidate, Your seat as home state quota for NIT Andhra Pradesh, I want to clarify one thing:

The closing rank of 74,000 you said for Civil Engineering at NIT AP is for the Common Rank List (CRL) and not EWS category. JoSAA usually provides closing ranks by category (Home State/Other State, and Female/Non-Female), so the EWS closing ranks would be in the EWS specific closing ranks under the category for Female, Home State.  With the EWS rank of 48,000, you will probably not get a seat into Civil Engineering at NIT AP because the EWS closing ranks for Civil engineering under the home state quota last year are usually much lower (usually under 3,000-5,000 EWS rank).

Hello Swetha,

Yes, you're eligible for JEE Main 2026 & BITSAT 2026 with your 2025 Board improvement exam marks.

JEE Main: Your 2025 marks count for eligibility. These improved marks will be used for the 75% criteria for NIT/IIT admissions.

BITSAT: Your 2025 improved marks are accepted. Ensure they meet the 75% aggregate in PCM (or PCB) and 60% individually in each. Your "Pass" status must remain.

Ensure results are available by deadlines.
