How to prepare for the IISER Aptitude Test?

Understand the syllabus

The first step is to understand the syllabus. The syllabus should form the basis of your preparation. The syllabus for any examination is extremely crucial as it describes the topics and concepts to be covered while preparing for the examination. Having a clear understanding of the syllabus will help you to decide how much time you should dedicate to each section. The syllabus for IAT generally includes the NCERT syllabus for classes XI and XII in physics, chemistry, maths and biology subjects. Candidates can obtain the detailed syllabus from the official website itself at iiseradmission.in.

Time Management is Important

The next step is time management. After having clarity about what is required to be prepared for the examination, the candidate should prepare a timetable that helps them cover all the topics well in time and also allows time for mock tests and revision. The timetable can be set by dividing the number of days left till the exam, topics to be covered, difficulty level of the topics, time required for revision, etc.

Select the Right Book

Students often search for the best books for IISER. The knowledge of the best books gives students an edge as they know exactly how to approach the various topics, what is important, etc and hence students do not waste time looking for resources or materials to prepare. It is important to carefully select one or two reference books and revise multiple times from them rather than opting for many books and not being able to finish anything. Students must commence their IISER preparation 2025 from the class 11th and 12th NCERTs. NCERTs do help in understanding the syllabus however, mere understanding will not help when the competition level is high and the number of seats are limited. In such a case preparing from the below listed books gives students ample practice of tricky questions and a deeper understanding of the topics for IAT.

Practice Sample Papers and Mock Tests

After preparing the topics with the help of reference books and various other resources, it is required to be familiar with the exam pattern for the IAT. For this candidates should practise past year question papers and take up mock tests. It not only familiarises them with the questions but also helps them understand the most important topics based on how frequently they are asked. Also, candidates can get a sense of time management as they attempt the mocks. The goal is to answer the maximum number of right questions within the timeframe of the examination. IISER provides sample papers and a mock test as well on its official website. Students can purchase practice materials from the market easily.

Revision Is The Key

Revision is another key step in the preparation journey. There is no use in simply learning topics without retaining and being able to produce them in the examination. Rather than finding new materials and getting confused, it is advised to revise the old material and be thorough with all the existing books. Revision helps us to brush the topics and ensure that we do not forget the important concepts while focusing on the newer ones.

Focus On Your Health

An important aspect is focusing on your health. As the exam approaches so does the heat around it. No matter how hard you prepare for the examination, in the end it all goes in vain if you are unable to even attempt the examination. Candidates should also give due attention to their health to last all through the exam preparation and be able to attempt the examination.

Have a question related to IISER Aptitude Test ?

Hello,

If you have uploaded the old EWS certificate (2024–2025) instead of the new one (2025–2026), there is a chance that it may not be accepted, as the IISER notification clearly asks for the valid and updated EWS certificate for the year 2025–2026.

Right now, if the correction window is closed, you won’t be able to change it. But don’t worry too much. Once the results are out and before the counselling starts (before 16 June), there is usually a document verification process. You may get a chance to upload the correct and updated certificate during that time.

Just make sure you get the 2025–2026 EWS certificate ready as soon as possible, so if they allow updates before counselling, you can upload the correct one.

Hope it helps !

Hello,

If you have selected OBC-NCL category and uploaded a Central OBC-NCL certificate , then there is no issue .

IISER accepts Central OBC-NCL certificate , as long as it is valid and issued by a competent authority. Just make sure the certificate is:

  • Issued within one year from the application date.

  • Clearly mentions OBC-NCL and your caste is in the central list .

If these points are okay, then your form is fine.

Hope it helps !

Hello aspirant,

Applicants must take either the JEE Main or JEE Advanced exam in order to be considered for admission to the best engineering institutes in India. JEE Advanced and Main are administered by separate bodies. Because the JEE Advanced exam is more difficult than the JEE Main exam, candidates who are prepared for it have an advantage.
