IISER Exam Eligibility 2026

Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research has released the IISER IAT 2026 eligibility criteria on the official website. The authority has provided the eligibility criteria of IISER 2026 on the official website. Candidates can check the details on the eligibility criteria.

  • Nationality:

    • Applicants must be Indian nationals, PIO or OCI to apply for IAT.

  • Education qualification:

    • Passed the class 12th exam in 2024/ 2025/ 2026 with the science stream from any board recognised by the Council of Boards of School Education in India, COBSE.

    • Candidates must have taken at least three subjects among Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics during their class 12th exam.

    • Belonging to SC/ST/PwD should have scored a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in their class 12th exam. Candidates belonging to other categories should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in their class 12th exam.

IISER Eligibility Criteria 2026 - Performance Criteria in Class XII/ equivalent exam

  • Candidates who have appeared for the Class 12 exam and are waiting for their results can apply for IAT 2026.

  • In the case of aggregate marks in class XI and XII, marks in class XII will be taken into consideration.

  • If the board awards grades without aggregate marks, then the students have to obtain a certificate from the board specifying equivalent marks.

Admission Channels

IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) Channel

Candidates seeking admission through this channel must appear for a computer-based IISER Aptitude Test (IAT-2026)

  • IISER Exam Eligibility- As per the IISER admission criteria, candidates must have passed three subjects in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics, having a minimum score of 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in the class 12th exam. To be eligible for an IISER qualification, a candidate must be an Indian National. There is no IISER age limit; however, the minimum age is 18 years to apply for the exam.
  • IISER exam eligibility criteria based on OBC - Candidates belonging to the Other Backwards Classes (OBCNC) and Persons with Disability (PD) categories, there is a 5% relaxation to the prescribed eligibility criteria of IISER admission. Whereas, the cut-off percentage for the SC, ST, and Kashmiri Migrants (KM) candidates is 55% in the (10+2) level for all boards.
  • IAT Exam Eligibility- To be eligible for an IAT exam, a candidate must have taken at least three subjects among Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics during their class 12th exam. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD should have scored a minimum of 55% marks in their class 12th exam.

IISER Exam Reservation Policy 2026

The IISER reserves a few seats for students in different categories as mandated by the Government of India. Check the reservation policy below.
