Applicants must capture their live photo during the JEE Main registration. The authority has included this compulsory section in the JEE Main 2026 application as a part of a security measure against fraud. Aspirants need to ensure they have a light-coloured background, proper lighting, and that 80% of their face (including ears, without a mask) is visible. The authority started the session 2 JEE Main 2026 registration on February 1, 2026. The JEE Main 2026 exam session 2 will be held from April 2 to 9, 2026.

The National Testing Agency has announced in the JEE information brochure that the JEE Main live photo capture is mandatory while filling out the application. It is a very simple and straightforward process to capture a live photo during the JEE Main registration. Firstly, candidates need to have the following ready before proceeding with live photo capture-
A functioning camera. Candidates can use either a Laptop/ Webcam/ Mobile Phone/Tablet or any other device with a good camera.
A well-lit environment
The background should be light in colour.
80% of the candidate’s face must be visible, including ears. Face masks are not allowed.

Fill in all the preceding sections in the JEE Mains 2026 application form. The live photo capture section is available after the emergency contact details have been filled. Candidates will come across a screen which will look like this-

Read the given instructions
Switch on the camera on the device used to fill the form or connect the webcam.
Make sure that the lighting is good and the background is light coloured.
Face must be clearly visible.
Note- A timer will start as soon as the live capture section is opened. Applicants should capture their live photo before the timer ends.
When Using the Device’s Built-in Camera or Webcam
The candidate’s face will be visible in the live camera box.
Note that it should be with the box and clearly visible.
Proceed to click on the ‘Capture Photograph’ button.
The captured photograph will be visible on the screen.
If satisfied, proceed to submit.
When Using Mobile Phone/Tablet etc
Candidates have the option to capture a live photo in JEE Main registration using external devices like mobile or tablet etc.
In such a case, they need to scan the QR code given on the screen.
It will lead to the application tab that will have a option "Capture Live Photograph ".
Capture the photograph using the device’s camera after giving the permissions (if any needed).
Click the photo and upload it. It will now be visible on the actual device in which the application is being filled.
Select the ‘Refresh Captured Photo’.
The live photo will be visible on the application tab, along with the Aadhaar photo.
After the above-mentioned process is completed, applicants will be presented with three options.
Option 1- Capture the live photo again.
Option 2- Update the photograph in Aadhaar and proceed to fill the form.
Option 3- Proceed to fill the form despite the photographs of live capture and Adhaar not matching. In case the authority finds any case of imitation or impersonation in the future, the candidature will be cancelled.
Note- If applicants are satisfied with the clicked image, they should select option 3 and submit.
Candidates have to fill out the application before the JEE Mains registration last date 2026, which will be in February 2026. Note the following dates and complete the live photo capture for JEE Mains registration 2026 before the deadline.
