Established in 1980, Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (Dr. AIT), Bangalore is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi. Careers360: Tell us something about the Institute; when it was set up, vision and mission.

Answer: Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (Dr. AIT) was established in the year 1980 under the patronages of Panchajanya Vidya Peetha Welfare Trust (PVPWT) Bangalore, founded by Late Sri. M. H. Jayaprakash Narayan. The Institute is located on the outer ring road, Near Jnana Bharathi Campus, Bangalore on a vast 20.30 Acres with modern amenities.

Dr. AIT is an Autonomous Institution that has grown during the last four decades with all the recent developments incorporated in its curricula with well-qualified and experienced faculty members. It is one of the few technical Institutions in Karnataka state to get World Bank assistance under TEQIP I, II, III (completed). The success rate of students in the Institution varies from 90% to 100%. Technical graduates of this Institution are doing very well worldwide in all their assignments.

The Institution offering well-established 12 Undergraduate Programs, 7 Post Graduate Programs, and 15 Research Centres are affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, and approved by AICTE.

The institution has become Grant-in-Aid by the State Government since 1992. Academic Autonomy has been granted by the UGC, GoK, and VTU during the year 2010-11 for UG programmes and since 2016-17 all PG programmes are under autonomous status.

The Institution is accredited by NAAC with ‘A+’ grade on its first attempt and almost all the programmes are accredited by NBA. Dr. AIT has signed MOUs with many foreign universities and reputed Industries. In addition, a good number of Patents are filed by faculty members & students, most of them are granted and others are in the pipeline.

The Career Guidance and Placement Cell provides guidance and assistance for the students in order to meet the demands of the current industry and prepares students to achieve their career goals right from the inception, adequate emphasis is given to aptitude and soft skill development complementing the regular academic programmes.

The institution is having a Start-up Cell “Ambedkar Centre for Tech Start-up (ACTS)” consisting of faculty, students, alumni, and other individuals and partners from like-minded organizations to foster student entrepreneurship through incubation, ecosystem development, and academic initiatives to stimulate growth of tech start-ups and facilitates business growth by forging partnerships at the national and global level.

Careers360: Tell us something about the admission process?

Answer: KEA and COMEDK are the two conducting authorities that conduct state-level entrance exams to offer BE programmes in engineering colleges of Karnataka. To seek admission into the various BE programmes in the state of Karnataka, candidates must qualify for any one of the KCET, COMEDK-UGET. Apart from these, students can be admitted through Management Quota, NRI Quota, PMSSS quota, All India Quota. For PG programmes like M.Tech, MCA, and MBA admission happens through GATE, CMAT, and PGCET.

Careers360: What kind of infrastructure can students expect at the Institute? Please elaborate?

Answer: A well-designed administrative block and various other rooms and facilities for the students such as girls common room and boys common room, waiting room, co-operative store, etc. Well-equipped furnished departmental laboratories as per the norms of AICTE & University. A separate classroom with well-furnished and ventilated facilities for each section of students. Audio-visual Room with all teaching aids including Digital Boards, Television, Video Player, LCD Projector, Video Camera, Still Camera, DVD, Multimedia Computer, Audio Systems, etc., Wi-Fi Internet facility for 24/7 around the college campus. All the facilities for games and sports. Adequate infrastructure for indoor and outdoor games and extra-curricular activities. A canteen with hygienic food on the college campus. Other facilities consist of Drawing Hall, Conference Hall, Seminar hall, amphitheatre and Auditorium etc. Modernised Library facility with online access to Digital library even after working hours, Bus facility for students to commute from different parts of the city.

Careers360: There is a lot of stress that is being made with regard to interaction with the industry as well as companies that recruit. What are the steps being taken by the institute in this direction?

Answer: The steps being taken by the institute in regards to industry interaction as well as companies that recruit are mentioned below.

1. The Orientation Program is conducted at the beginning of every semester to emphasize on the importance of Academics, Internal Assessment, Internships, Industry visits, Guest lectures, and Placement training.

2. Students are provided with handout materials, and assignments are given after the completion of every unit through the online NAXEED Portal Practice Test on the topics of Aptitude, Coding, etc for continuous learning and practice.

3. Behavioral skills, classroom etiquette, and interview etiquette to be followed during training as well as during interview.

4. Resume Building, Group Discussion, Group Activity, Mock interviews, and Mock Presentations are practically conducted to improve the communications skills of the students.

5. Coding and Technical training with hands-on experience in C, C++, Python, and other Coding languages is being taught to students.

6. Guest Lectures are arranged by Industry experts according to their domain concerned to address the students on currently trending technology and industry needs.

Careers360: Internships are now mandatory as per AICTE guidelines. Does the institute help students with this? If Yes, how?

Answer: Yes, Internships are now mandatory as per AICTE Guidelines and we as an institute help students to get an internship from various companies which are associated with us for recruitment, and they provide 3-4 months of internships during the final year.

With the new NEP Scheme students are undergoing the inter-department Internship where they are assigned to the distinguished faculty to carry out the Internship activity for 3-4 weeks during their semester holidays.

Also, students are encouraged to do Internships in various Govt. organizations like DRDO, ISRO, BHEL, HAL, etc. Students are also advised to undergo online Internships in their respective domain-specific companies and also we insist on carrying out online Internships on platforms like Intershala, etc.
