How is JEE Advanced Different from JEE Main? JEE Main 2017 has concluded much to the relief of many engineering aspirants. The national level engineering examination saw happiness and tears when the official results were announced on April 27, 2017. However, the dream towards the IITs does not stop here. Another hurdle yet to be crossed, the top 2,20,200 JEE Main qualifiers will have to qualify JEE Advanced to be eligible for admissions into the 23 Indian Institute of Information (IIT), which are the top most ranking engineering institutes of the nation. So how is JEE Advanced different from JEE Main? Difference between JEE Advanced and JEE Main

 

While both examinations are the gateway for admissions into the top engineering institutes of India, there are some major differences between JEE Advanced and JEE Main in terms of their allotment status, syllabus, preparation mode and more. Let us check all of them to know more information.

 

Stairway to IITs

 

If you think securing a seat in IITs will be simple, then think again. JEE Main works as the first step towards admissions into IITs and ISM Dhanbad. Only the top 2,20,000 candidates of JEE Main will be eligible to participate in the admission process of JEE Advanced. The top-ranked candidates will be allotted seats in IITs. The major difference between JEE Advanced and JEE Main is the final outcome of the process – allotment. Qualifying JEE Main with great ranks scores you a seat in the NITs, IITs and GFTIs of the nation, however, that is not enough for the most coveted IITs. For admissions into the engineering courses offered by the Indian Institute of Information (IIT), not only is the top JEE Main ranks required but the qualification in JEE Advanced is a must for every IIT aspirant.

How will the Exam be Held?

 

Both JEE Main and JEE Advanced consists of two papers, however, there is much difference between them. JEE Main conducts Paper I in both offline and online mode for B.Tech courses and Paper II is held in offline mode for B.Arch. Either of the examination can be selected. JEE Advanced is conducted offline via Paper I and Paper II, both of which are compulsory to attend and qualify.

 

What’s New in Syllabus?

 

While most of the JEE Main Syllabus surrounds around the CBSE syllabus of 11th and 12th standard, there are some few extra topics in JEE Advanced Syllabus. While preparing for JEE Advanced you will have to be focussed on gaining more knowledge and hence more topics are added for the preparation of the examination.

  • Biomolecules: Vitamins – Classification and functions; Nucleic acids – Chemical constitution of DNA and RNA

  • Chemistry in Everyday Life: Chemicals in medicines – Analgesics, tranquilizers, antiseptics, disinfectants, antimicrobials, antifertility drugs, antibiotics, antacids, antihistamins – their meaning and common examples.

Chemicals in food – Preservatives, artificial sweetening agents – common examples.

  • Sets, Relations and Functions: Sets and their representation; Union, intersection and complement of sets and their algebraic properties; power set; relation, Types of relations, equivalence relations

  • Statistics and Probability: Measures of Dispersion; calculation of mean, median. Mode of grouped and ungrouped data calculation of standard deviation, variance and mean deviation for grouped and ungrouped data.

  • Trigonometry: Heights and Distances

  • Mathematical Reasoning: Statements, logical operations and, or, implies, implied by, if and only if. Understanding of tautology, contradiction, converse and contra positive.

Objective or Not - Exam Pattern Breakdown

 

Objective questions are the paradigm of JEE Main. The questions are based on objective knowledge of the syllabus and will be -more speed focussed. Contrary to JEE Main, you will find JEE Advanced to be more concept based and analytical. The questions will more focussed on in-depth knowledge with the no fixed exam pattern but will consist mostly of MCQ, Paragraph questions, Matrix Matches and more. 

 

Preparation Style

 

The preparation style for JEE Advanced naturally has to be more extensive and focussed. Since the exam pattern is vague and not disclosed by the JEE Advanced authorities, it is a well known fact that all of the questions will be analytical and fully concept based. Therefore, it is best advised that all topics should be studied in a detailed manner. Try to solve many sample papers and attempt mock tests. Breakdown the syllabus and study each topic well to make sure you score the required marks in JEE Advanced for admissions into IITs.

 

Pressure

 

The one thing you will not be able to escape from JEE Advanced is “Pressure”. The amount of pressure while preparing for JEE Advanced will be double of what you faced during JEE Main. The best thing to do during this is to remain calm. Study, make notes and revise. If you feel stressed out, take a small break. Remember not to fall prey to the pressure.
