As per the latest NIRF report, Telangana's premier engineering colleges collectively placed 68.71 per cent of their BTech graduates.
Careers360, in this article has analysed the data shared by these institutions for students enrolled in the 2018 to 2022 batch. Colleges that were ranked by the NIRF – and are, therefore, within the top 100 in the country – were selected for analysis.
Telangana has six colleges among the top 100 engineering colleges ranked in NIRF. Among these, the standout performers in terms of NIRF ranking are the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad and the National Institute of Technology Warangal, securing the eight and 21 positions, respectively.
Delving deeper into the enrollment and graduation statistics, it is evident that out of the total students enrolled in the top engineering colleges during the 2018-2022 batch, around 91.28 per cent of students successfully completed their studies. Among these graduates, over 68.71 per cent of students secured jobs in various industries.

In terms of placement rates, International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad did better than all the engineering colleges of Telangana, which had 90.97 per cent placement. While Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad remained the lowest placement percentage- 51.22.
For the top engineering institutions, the average placement rate of Telangana was 68.71 per cent which was the lowest compared to other states like Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Karnatak, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab. Colleges from Delhi showed the highest placement with 87.24 per cent, followed by Maharashtra and UP with 85.68 and 85.05 per cent respectively and Tamil Nadu with 78.22. Punjab and Karnatka’s colleges placed less than 72 per cent.
These averages are based on the total number of students graduating and not the total enrollment.
As per data submitted to the NIRF, the top engineering Telangana colleges had around 3 percent more enrollment than intake. This could be due to “lateral entry” into the programme after the first year.

While the placement rates provide a holistic perspective on graduate outcomes, it's equally essential to consider the students' aspirations for higher studies. Telangana stands out as a state with a robust inclination towards pursuing higher education, with 19.03 per cent of students opting for higher studies,this became higher than other states. Additionally, the average median salary for engineering graduates in Telangana is an impressive Rs. 15.31 lakh per annum, setting a benchmark for remuneration among other states.

Central institutions like IIT Hyderabad and NIT Warangal rely on national-level entrance exams, such as the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and JEE Advanced, as the basis for admissions.
In contrast, the remaining institutions primarily admit students through the Telangana State Engineering Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET), Some hold aptitude tests of their own as well.
