GATE Eligibility Criteria 2020 - IIT Delhi has closed the application process of GATE 2020. The institute will conduct GATE 2020 on February 1, 2, 8 and 9. According to a new notification, candidates who registered after May 31, 2013 for certification equivalent to B.E./B.Tech from any of the professional societies will also be eligible for GATE 2020. However, this eligibility will be provisional and further subjected to court orders. The conducting authority has announced GATE 2020 eligibility criteria for students along with the information brochure. Students are required to check out the detailed eligibility conditions set up the conducting body. GATE 2020 eligibility criteria consist of all the important information regarding eligibility such as academic qualifications, the aggregate score, age limit etc. Candidates who will meet the eligibility conditions will be able to appear for GATE exam. Applicants who will be unable to meet the eligibility criteria will be disqualified from GATE 2020. Students must also note that these eligibility conditions are just for GATE examination and the eligibility criteria for admissions into M.Tech courses at different IITs will be decided separately. Before applying for GATE 2020, candidates were advised to carefully go through below given eligibility conditions. GATE has many papers and eligibility criteria are different for different streams. Given below are the general eligibility conditions of GATE 2020:

Candidates of Indian nationality will be eligible to appear for GATE 2020.
Candidates from countries other than India will be also eligible to attempt GATE 2020.
Candidates must have passed graduation in engineering/technology or Master’s degree in any relevant science subject.
There is no age limit for GATE 2020
Apart from the general eligibility criteria of GATE 2020, authorities has also released paper wise eligibility criteria of GATE 2020. All candidates applying for GATE 2020 must have completed their Bachelor's degree or must be in the final year of their graduation. Candidates who have completed their Bachelor's degree are required to submit the passing certificate and candidates who are currently in their final year must submit a certificate from their institute’s principal. The given below table shows paper wise GATE 2020 eligibility criteria.

Students registered in courses equivalent to B.E/ B.Tech/ B.Arch from Professional Societies after May 31, 2013 and meets other eligibility criteria are also eligible to apply. There eligibility is subjected to court order as the case is subjudice.
Professional Societies Conducting Examination Equivalent to B.E./B.Tech
*Candidates who possess certification from any of above mentioned professional societies must ensure that those examinations conducted by the societies are approved by MHRD/AICTE/UGC/UPSC as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech
Candidates applying for GATE 2020 must know that along with the relevant details and application fee, they also have to upload some mandatory documents specified by the exam conducting authorities The eligibility criteria certificate had to be uploaded in the application form as applicable and candidates are not required to send it by post or any other medium. Given below are some important points related to eligibility documents to be uploaded by candidates:
If the applicants have pursued/pursuing any higher degree mentioned in the table, in that case, the candidate should choose the minimum required qualifying degree at the time of filling the application form.
Students who have completed one of the qualifying examinations given in the table in 2019 or earlier, then they are required to submit the degree certificate/provisional degree certificate/course completion certificate/membership certificate as issued by the designated authorities.
In case a student is expected to complete the qualifying criteria in 2020 or later as mentioned in the table, then he/she has to upload their Provisional Certificate Letter (as issued by the Head of the Institute/Dean/Registrar/Head of Department) or a copy of marks card for Section A of AMIE, etc.
Candidates with backlogs (failed subjects) in any of the subjects in their qualifying examination have to upload a copy of any of the mark sheet of the final year issued from the institute where he/she was pursuing their qualifying examination. It has to be noted that the internet downloaded mark-sheet will not be accepted under any circumstances.
SC/ST category candidates have to upload a valid document proof to avail a concession in the application fee. Certificates issued by authorized officials will only be considered for concession.
PwD (Persons with Disabilities) category candidates are required to upload a PwD certificate issued by a recognized authority. Candidates who have at least 40% impairment irrespective of the kind of disability will only be provided concession in the application fee. Candidates are also required to submit the certificate at the allotted institute at the time of admission.
Dyslexic candidates will be required to submit a certificate stating the same issued by authorities in order to get the services of a scribe.
Candidates who will qualify the entrance test and fulfil GATE 2020 eligibility criteria will be given admissions in M.Tech courses at different IITs, NITs, IIITs and some CFTIs. There will be no separate counselling process for GATE 2020 and candidates will have to apply separately for different counselling processes. For admission in M.Tech courses in IITs, candidates will have to apply to register through COAP. The counselling process for COAP will be carried out separately. Applicants seeking admissions in NITs, IIITs and some CFTIs, the candidates will have to apply through Centralized Counselling for M.Tech (CCMT).
Candidates can apply for only one GATE paper that is appropriate for the discipline of undergraduate engineering course they are appearing for.

You are eligible to get a job in PSU if you crack the GATE exam, it does not matter what degree you choose, what matters here is your GATE marks. But as you are an automobile student, it will be probably a little bit difficult for you to prepare for mechanical exams as your syllabus will differ.
