Dhruv: I do not know why I want to study engineering and have not really decided which branch I want to apply for. I have just cleared the examination but don’t know if I will study engineering.

Careers360: When did you start your JEE Main preparation? Tell us something about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Main?

Dhruv: I started off my preparation for JEE Main from 11th standard. My preparation was generally exam based i.e., using the previous year exam papers to get an idea of what can be asked and what I need to study.

Careers360: Did you face any difficulties since the examination was conducted completely in computer based mode?

Dhruv: I did not face any problems because the computer based mode is very familiar to me.

Careers360: Was there a difference in the preparation strategy in the last months of JEE Main considering that the board exams are also coming up? How did you manage preparation for both?

Dhruv: No. The preparation for JEE Main and board exams are totally similar. There is no major difference other than JEE Main being objective and board exam being subjective. The syllabus and course are all the same.

Careers360: Did you take coaching for JEE Main and if yes from where? What are the benefits of coaching according to you?

Dhruv: Yes, I am studying at Catalyser. The benefit of coaching is that you get proper guidance. Everybody studies but the guided student does well.

Careers360: Mock tests and sample papers – how extensively did you practise with the help of these? Do you think practising from the previous year papers help and how?

Dhruv: More than mock tests, I practiced using previous year question papers. I feel that solving previous year question papers are the best way to prepare for the examination.

Careers360: Are there any special books that you feel have helped with your JEE Main preparation? Are the school text books adequate for preparing for JEE Main and Class XII?

Dhruv: NCERT books are more than enough for JEE Main. According to me, no other books are required.

in jee main class 12 Marks details I have given chemistry Marks instead of computer science Marks though I got higher Marks in computer science .will it create any problem?

Aditya kumar Student Expert 22nd Oct, 2019
Hello there!

Greetings !

To calculate percentage in 12th board for filling jee mains application form you need to consider the marks scored in five subjects - (1) Physics, (2) Chemistry, (3) Mathematics, (4) A language and (5) Any subject other than the above four, is taken into account. So, it's good that you don't replaced chemistry marks by cs marks. Also, you don't need to worry at all, you will not face any problem as there's no percentage barrier to be eligible for jee mains. The criteria to be eligible for jee mains is that candidate should have passed class 12 or qualifying the exam in 2018 or 2019 or should be appearing in 2020 for it with Physics,Mathematics, and any one of (Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Subject).

The percentage barrier comes while taking admission in NIT,IIT and GFTI for which candidates should have obtained a minimum of 75% marks in class 12 or equivalent exam or they must be in the top 20 percentile in their class 12 examination. For SC/ ST, the eligibility is to obtain a minimum of 65% marks in class 12 or equivalent.

Thankyou

hi, will it be asked during placement if I am dropping two years for jee mains? i passed in 2018 12th, i am studying in a college 1st year in 2019, and if i give jee mains 2020, will it be considered two years drop? or one year drop? since im doing college as well as preparing.

Shudhanshu Gupta Student Expert 21st Oct, 2019
Hello.
as you said that you did a partial drop and you had completed your class 12th in 2018 so if you will give JEE mains in 2020 then definitely there will be your two year drop considered, for that you will have to submit the reason for this drop when you will take admission in any college after selection, and if you give JEE mains in 2019 then your one year drop will be considered.
Best of luck.

How to score 90 percentilein JEE mains

Ashish pal Student Expert 21st Oct, 2019

Hello dear aspirant.

I think you will be well aware of the fact that from this year onwards there is slight change in JEE mains examination pattern. Scoring 90 percentile is not very tough still . You have to study regular and solve at least one practice paper daily and join test serieses to evaluate yourself.

It will surely help you.

Good luck

Hello,

If you have 6 subjects then the aggregate of Marks is done as English + Best of Four and English is compulsory.
But for JEE Main 2020 - Subject Combinations for Admissions
The subjects given below are compulsory for the candidates in order to get admissions through JEE Main 2020 into NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. The subject combination for each paper is given below:

B.Tech/B.E - Passed qualifying examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subject.
