Subject Wise Weightage For GATE
Subject wise weightage for GATE exam is important to have a clear idea to prepare and strategize well. The weightage of each subject shows how important those subjects are in the overall examination and guides candidates to work harder on them. For example, in Electrical Engineering, subjects like Engineering Mathematics and Signals & Systems are important due to their foundational character. Mechanical Engineering also highlights subjects like Heat Transfer and Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering which are essential for a comprehensive set of skills. Examining the weightage of subjects helps aspirants build a well-organized study plan, giving equal importance to covering all topics based on their exam demands. This focused strategy eventually helps in mastering fundamental points and improving overall outcomes for many engineering disciplines.
Since 2022, GATE Examinations have been conducted for 30 disciplines. At present, there are a total of 30 papers to be attempted in GATE including three new ones- GE (Geomatics Engineering), NM (Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering), and DA and AI ( Data Science and Artificial Intelligence). Total 27 Subjects (Humanity and Social Science: XS=14+ Environmental Science and Engineering: ES=13) in the year 2020. However, here you can go only for one or two papers among 30 available papers & subjects. Here are all the GATE subjects that we have compiled for your easy reference, in this article.
We have seen the pattern. Now let's see the subject wise weightage of all the major subjects in GATE 2026. The weightage table has two sections:
1. The main sections
2. The weightage associated to it based on the last 5 year's question paper.

Yes, it will be acceptable. In GATE registration, the name should match your valid photo ID proof in terms of spelling, not the order. Many Indian IDs have surname written first, while the portal generates it as first–middle–last. Since all three parts of your name (Vikash, Rameshbhai, Bhagel) are correct, there won’t be any issue. Just ensure you upload the correct ID proof. During verification, they check spelling, photo, and signature, not the word order.
Hello,
Yes, you can change your category from General to OBC during the GATE 2026 correction window.
GATE always allows candidates to correct details like category. You will need to pay a small correction fee for this change. Make sure you upload a valid OBC certificate as per the format and date mentioned by GATE.
So, wait for the correction window, log in to your application, and update your category to OBC.

Hello, with an AIR of 25070 and a score of 499 in NEET PG 2025 under the General category, getting a government seat in West Bengal for highly demanded branches like General Surgery or Orthopedics may be difficult, as these usually close at much higher ranks. However, you still stand a chance for other clinical or para-clinical branches through the state quota counselling. I suggest using the NEET PG college predictor link I’m sharing here, which will give you a clearer idea of the colleges and branches you may get based on your rank and category.
