What is JEE Main 2026 Percentile?

JEE Main 2026 percentile indicates the performance of the candidate relative to the other candidates in the JEE Main 2026 exam. This means that it indicates the percentage of candidates who scored equal to or less than a particular candidate. The result is released in the form of a JEE Main 2026 percentile because of the multi-session format of the exam.

How to calculate the JEE Main 2026 percentile

NTA calculates the JEE Main percentile by applying a normalisation formula. Candidates can use the formula to calculate their JEE Main percentiles. However, they can also use Careers360’s JEE Main 2026 percentile calculator for the same. To use the percentile calculator, candidates need to know their JEE Main raw scores. The JEE Main 2026 exam pattern contains information about how to calculate the raw scores.

The JEE Main normalisation formula is

  • Percentile Score of a Candidate = 100 x (Number of candidates who secured a raw score (or actual score) equal to or less than the candidate)/(Total number of candidates who appeared in that session)

Candidates can also find the formulas to calculate the percentile scores for each subject of the JEE Main 2026 exam separately in the table below.

JEE Main Percentile Scores for each subject and the total percentile score

Percentile scoreCalculation

Total Percentile (T1P):

(100 x No. of candidates from the session with raw score equal to or less than T1 score) / Total No. of candidates appeared in the session

Mathematics Percentile (M1P)

(100 x No. of candidates appeared from the session with raw score equal to or less than the M1 score in Mathematics)

/ Total No. of candidates appeared in the session

Physics Percentile (P1P)

(100 x No. of candidates appeared from the session with raw score equal to or less than P1 score in Physics) / Total No. of candidates appeared in the session

Chemistry Percentile (C1P):

(100 x No. of candidates appeared from the session with raw score equal to or less than C1 score in Chemistry) / Total No. of candidates appeared in the session

  • NTA score in Physics, followed by

  • NTA score in Chemistry, followed by

  • Candidate with less proportion of number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test, followed by

  • Candidate with less proportion of number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Mathematics in the Test, followed by

  • Candidate with less proportion of number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics in the Test, followed by

  • Candidate with less proportion of number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry in the Tes, followed by

  • If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: How is the JEE Main result declared?
A:

NTA announces the JEE Main 2026 result in the form of the NTA percentile.

Q: How is the JEE Main 2026 percentile calculated?
A:

Q: What is a good score in the JEE Main 2026 exam?
A:

A score of above 250 in the JEE Main 2026 exam can be considered a good score.

Q: Do the same marks always result in the same percentile?
A:

No, the JEE Main percentile varies year by year based on various factors such as the number of students that attempted the exam, the difficulty level of the exam and more.

Q: Can JEE Main 2026 score analysis help in improving Session 2 performance?

With 10 marks in the JEE Main entrance examination, you can get admission in private universities only. 10 marks in JEE Mains equals a 13-19 percentile, which is low to get into any good engineering colleges.

Some of the private universities accepting low JEE Main scores are:

With 77 marks in JEE Main, you can expect engineering colleges like NIT Mizoram, NIT Meghalaya , and NIT Arunachal Pradesh. Consider private colleges like GITAM, Lovely Professional University, SRM Institute of Science and Technology , Chandigarh University, and Amity University for better branch options.

Students with 68 marks in JEE Main examination can hardly get admission into top IITs and NITs like IIT Gandhinagar , IIT Bombay, NIT Kanpur , and more, although there are many other universities and colleges that accepts 68 marks in JEE Main for admission to Engineering programmes, some of
