Read the article to know the preparation tips and key success factors of Vrunda Rathi, the top ranking female JEE Main 2017 candidate.
Careers360 - Congratulations for your outstanding performance in JEE Main 2017! What was your reaction upon knowing your rank?
Vrunda – I am feeing quite happy about it. The rank was not so unexpected but the AIR – 1 among girls was. My reaction was quite happy upon knowing my rank.
Careers360 - Tell us something about yourself. Which board have you studied under? Which school have you studied in?
Vrunda – I am from Nasik. I did a two years course in IITians PACE to prepare for JEE Main 2017 and i am planning to do B.Sc in IISC Bangalore. I studied in St. Xavier's High School and i have qualified from State Board.
Careers360 - What is your score in JEE Main 2017? What is your all India rank and category rank?
Vrunda – My score was 321 in JEE Main and All India Rank was 71.
Careers360 - Did you appear for the offline JEE Main exam or the online one? What is the reason behind this choice of yours?
Vrunda – I appeared for the online examination. I selected the online mode because you do not have to fill the OMR sheets which takes up a lot of time. You can save up to 20 minutes of your time. I also heard from many people that the online examination is easier and even i felt that compared to the offline exam, the online was easier.
Careers360 - Why do you want to study engineering? When did you decided to study engineering? Which branch would you be interested in? Any reason?
Vrunda – I actually do not want to go for engineering. I want to study B.Sc in IISC Bangalore. I like Mathematics so i thought of selecting this course for my future studies.
Careers360 - When did you start your JEE Main preparation? Tell us something about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Main?
Vrunda – I started my preparation for JEE Main 2017 in 11th standard, two years back. For JEE Main 2017, I mostly used the NCERT books. I mostly followed what the coaching institute instructed me to. Reading NCERT books is good because most the coaching institutes focus on extra difficult problems and JEE Main examination is not quite that tough. So, NCERT is good for preparation.
Careers360 - Was there a difference in the preparation strategy in the last months of JEE Main considering that the board exams also are during this period? How did you manage preparation for both?
Vrunda – During preparation i was actually more focused on JEE Advanced and not that much on JEE Mains.I did not study for the board exams as much, because in boards its not necessary to score high marks as nobody cares the percentage you scores in the board exams. So i did not study much for boards, i just prepared 15 days before the exams started.
Careers360 - Did you take coaching for JEE Main and if yes from where? What are the benefits of coaching according to you?
Vrunda – I took my coaching from IITians PACE Academy. Coaching was quite beneficial for me as i am not the type of person who can self study for a long period of time. So you get most of the work done at the coaching institutes.
Careers360 - Mock tests and sample papers – how extensively did you practice with the help of these? Do you think practicing from the previous year papers help and how?
Vrunda – Yes. I worked mostly on what the coaching institute provided me with.
Careers360 - Are there any special books that you feel have helped with your JEE Main preparation? Are the school text books adequate for preparing for JEE Main and Class XII?
Vrunda – The 38 Years’ Past Year IIT JEE Papers have been most beneficial. Mostly i used NCERT books for Physics and Chemistry. I did not use NCERT books for Mathematics. I studied in a State Board which is quite different from CBSE, so CBSE books were quite adequate for Physics and Chemistry preparation. For Mathematics, i used what the coaching institute provided me.
Careers360 - Did you face any problem during the JEE Main examination? Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest in JEE Main? What do you think is a tough thing to manage during the JEE Main exam?
Vrunda – No i did not face any problem in the examination. Mathematics was the easiest section and Physics was a bit on the tougher side.
Careers360 - What do you think are the key factors behind your stupendous success in JEE Main?
Vrunda– I think the quality in me that creates an edge over others is that i do not get tensed during examinations. Most people get tensed while attempting an exam and do worse than they were doing earlier. I think i do better than what i did earlier in the exam.
Careers360 - How did you de-stress yourself during the preparation? What are your hobbies? How often could you pursue them?
Vrunda– I read a lot and i play the flute. I play classical flute.
Careers360 - Who is your ideal or biggest inspiration in life and why?
Vrunda– I do not have one such person. I think we should find something to learn from everyone in life.
Careers360 - You know you are an inspiration to thousands of students across the country. Do you have any message for future aspirants on tackling the JEE Main exam?
Vrunda – I think you should study a lot but do not over stress yourself. When you over stress yourself you do not do as well as you would. I believe there is a certain limit after which even if you study you will not do better.

can bio student can give jee main exam while uptu is not connecting exam and uptu exam will conduct through jee main
Your question is unclear but I will try to answer as much as I can.
So, a bio student can give JEE Mains only when the student has Maths as an additional subject and appears in its board examination and secures good marks (such that total percentage of PCM is higher than or equal to 75%(GEN) or 65%(SC/ST))
Yes UPTU is cancelled now the colleges that previously took admission through UPTU, will be considering JEE Mains score now.
