Q1: Congratulations on your performance in the JEE Main January 2024 exam! What was your reaction upon knowing your score?
Madhav Bansal: Thank you! I was thrilled and relieved when I found out my score. It was a validation of all the hard work and preparation I put into the exam.
Q2: Tell us something about yourself. Which board have you studied under? Which school have you studied in?
Madhav Bansal: I studied under the CBSE Board and was enrolled in the FIITJEE integrated course. Throughout my academic journey, I've been passionate about science and maths. I'm excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and eager to pursue my interests further in IIT Bombay, CS.
Q3: Why do you want to study engineering? When did you decide to study engineering? Which branch would you be interested in? Any reason?
Madhav Bansal: I want to study engineering because, my father is an engineer, and my brother is also studying B. tech. So, since my childhood, I have been inclined towards engineering. I am interested in Computer Science.
Q4: When did you start your JEE Main preparation? Tell us something about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Main?
Madhav Bansal: I began my JEE Main preparation well in advance, ideally during my 11th grade. I followed a structured study plan that included revising key concepts regularly, solving plenty of practice questions, and taking mock tests to gauge my progress. My preparation strategy involved dividing my time efficiently among the three subjects: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. I allocated more time to topics I found challenging and made sure to strengthen my weak areas.
Q5: Did you face any difficulties since the examination was conducted completely in computer-based mode?
Madhav Bansal: No, I didn't face any difficulty because regular CBT mode tests were being taken by my coaching institute, FIITJEE Dwarka. The format of the CBT tests was the same. So, when I was giving JEE mains, I was already familiar with how to save/mark the questions.
Q6: Was there a difference in the preparation strategy in the last months of JEE Main considering that the board exams are also coming up? How did you manage preparation for Both?
Madhav Bansal: No, there was no difference at all because the syllabus for both jee main and boards is the same i.e. NCERT. I just studied NCERT of all chapters. So, in a way I was able to prepare for both JEE mains and boards.
Q7: Did you take coaching for JEE Main and if yes from where? What are the benefits of coaching according to you?
Madhav Bansal: Yes, I took coaching from FIITJEE Dwarka. FIITJEE Dwarka played a major role in my success. The teachers are very knowledgeable and supportive. They guided me throughout my journey, clearing all my doubts and strengthening my weaknesses. Regular classes, doubt sessions, specialized packages targeting JEE mains and JEE Advanced, regular online (CBT) tests were conducted which helped me gauge my performance.
Q8: Mock tests and sample papers – how extensively did you practice with the help of these? Do you think practicing from the previous year’s papers helps and how?
Madhav Bansal: Throughout the year, regular mock tests were being conducted by my coaching institute and during the last 1-2 months, I started to give previous year papers every day and then analyzed them properly. Practicing from previous year papers help a lot because questions from same concepts get repeated every year.
Q9: Are there any special books that you feel have helped with your JEE Main preparation? Are the school textbooks adequate for preparing for JEE Main and Class XII?
Madhav Bansal: Regarding whether school textbooks are adequate for JEE Main and Class XII preparation, it depends on the individual and their learning style. While school textbooks cover the necessary syllabus, some students may find them insufficient for in-depth understanding and practice. However, I find NCERT the most suitable for JEE main preparation.
Q10: Did you face any problems during the JEE Main examination? Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest in JEE Main? What do you think is a tough thing to manage during the JEE Main exam?
Madhav Bansal: No, I did not face any problem during the examination. I find all subjects easy, maths being the easiest. Time is tough to manage for students, but because of regular practice I was able to complete my whole paper in 2 hours and gave 1 hour to revision.
Q11: What do you think are the key factors behind your stupendous success in JEE Main?
Madhav Bansal: The constant support and guidance of my parents, elder brother and FIITJEE Dwarka faculty is the key factor for my success.
Q12: Will you be appearing for the April session of JEE Main 2024 too?
Madhav Bansal: Yes.
Q13: How did you de-stress yourself during the preparation? What are your hobbies? How often could you pursue them?
Madhav Bansal: I used to de-stress myself by spending quality time with my family, playing Table tennis with them, watching TV etc. My hobbies include music, basketball, and table tennis.
Q14: Who is your ideal or biggest inspiration in life and why?
Madhav Bansal: My inspirations are my parents and the teachers of FIITJEE Dwarka. However, my biggest inspiration in life is my elder brother, Vaibhav Bansal. They have inspired me with their resilience, determination, and leadership. He's studying B.Tech from IITBHU. since my childhood, he has always cleared all my doubts and guided me in the right way.
Q15: You know you are an inspiration to thousands of students across the country. Do you have any message for future aspirants on tackling the JEE Main exam?
Madhav Bansal: Believe in yourself and stay committed to your goals. Success in the JEE Main exam requires hard work, dedication, and perseverance. With a BC-E category certificate, EWS certificate, and Telangana home-state quota, your chances of getting admission to AIML or related CSE branches in CBIT, VNR VJIET, or similar top private colleges in Telangana depend mainly on your JEE Main percentile and the TS EAMCET counselling process, because these colleges fill seats through both TS EAMCET ranks and JEE Main scores (Category-B seats).
For Category-A seats (through TS EAMCET), JEE Main percentile is not considered. Admission is purely based on your TS EAMCET rank, reservation category, gender, and home-state status. CBIT and VNR are highly competitive, especially for AIML, CSE, and IT branches, so you generally need a very strong TS EAMCET rank (usually within a few thousand for BC-E candidates, sometimes slightly relaxed for girls).
For Category-B seats (JEE Main quota), JEE Main percentile matters. Based on recent trends, to have a realistic chance:
For CBIT (AIML / CSE / IT), a JEE Main percentile of around 95+ is usually expected, even for reserved categories, because Category-B seats are limited and competition is high.
For VNR VJIET (AIML / CSE / IT), candidates with 92–95 percentile sometimes have chances, depending on availability and the specific branch.
If your percentile is below 90, getting AIML or core CSE in CBIT or VNR becomes difficult, but you may still have chances in slightly lower-demand branches (like ECE, EEE, or emerging specialisations) or in other good private colleges affiliated with JNTU or autonomous institutions.
Your BC-E and EWS certificates do help mainly in TS EAMCET counselling (Category-A seats), not significantly in Category-B (JEE Main) admissions, where merit largely dominates. Home-state status is already assumed for these colleges, so there is no extra advantage beyond eligibility.
In summary, if your JEE Main percentile is 95 or above, you can reasonably target AIML/CSE in VNR and possibly CBIT through Category-B. If it is 90–94, VNR or related branches are more realistic than CBIT. Below that, it is better to focus on TS EAMCET performance or consider other reputed Telangana colleges offering AIML. If you want, you can share your exact JEE Main percentile and TS EAMCET rank, and I can give you a more precise college- and branch-wise estimate.
