RKV: Life of an aspiring engineer will be comparatively easy for freshers, class 12th students appearing with this change in the exam pattern. The new pattern will serve as an advantage for the student preparing for Boards and JEE Main 2019 together, as the syllabus of the entrance exam is also based on the NCERT books and guidelines. So, the student will get a head start for the Board exam preparations. But everything depends upon his/ her preparation strategy. Starting early and keeping a proactive approach is the assured way to achieve success. Now, class 12th student will be able to use their full preparation in January attempt which was not possible in earlier years as preparation used to dilute due to engagement in board preparations in Jan/ Feb/ March and then appear in JEE Main in April immediately after board.

Careers360: Since it has been announced that NTA will be conducting JEE Main 2019, how do you think the preparation should be done for the computer based examination to be conducted. What strategy should the students follow for preparation?

RKV: Nowadays, every competitive exam is switching to either online or computer based mode. JEE Main was partially computer based until last year, but this year, when it has gone completely computer based, the dates for it has also changed. But the preparation strategy will still remain the same. Every student should stick to the basics and work upon strengthening the fundamentals. And follow the guidelines given by their teachers. We, at Resonance have started preparing our students for the computer based mode since last year, we have made specific computer labs to provide the perfect environment to the student and soon the government will also open authorized centers where students can prepare for the computer based mode.

Careers360: Would you advise students to attempt both the January and April examination or concentrate on just one attempt?

RKV: A strong preparation for the exam is the most critical thing. For a fresher, he or she should complete the syllabus till December and attempt the exam scheduled in January. Analyze the exam and if necessary can work upon the shortcomings, till the next exam arrives. Whereas, for a student who is repeating should also not restrain himself or herself from taking the first scheduled exam. Technically, every student is getting two attempts to appear in the exam and best score will be used for merit. So, I would suggest he/she should appear in both the exams.

Careers360: What would you advise the students who want to start preparing for JEE Main 2019 now?

RKV: The best advice for every JEE aspirant is to start early. If you start early and do not procrastinate your preparations, then you will get ample time to revise and clear your doubts. So, make the best out of the time you have and commence your preparations now.

Careers360: What books should they follow now? Kindly name some books subject-wise.

RKV: Students should study NCERT books thoroughly. And focus on the standard textbooks and the study material provided by any reputed coaching institutes like Resonance provides Distance Learning material for detailed preparation and ‘Resonance Rank Booster' to give that extra edge to your preparations. And one should continuously give online tests to keep a track of their developments. For this one should register for online test series offered by the coaching institute.

Careers360: What is the timetable that students should follow?

RKV: A student should prepare a timetable according to his/ her study cycle. Where he/she should focus on the 12th standard syllabus. And form a weekly revision routine for the 11th standard syllabus, which covers around 40% of the course in JEE examination. The timetable should divide the time among the subjects according to the need of the students, where he/ she can work on the weak topics and strengthen them.

Careers360: What is the best method to study according to you?

RKV: One should have good command on formulae and concepts. And increase their speed of solving questions. Students should make a daily habit of solving at least 90 questions within three hours and take weekly mock tests.

Careers360: Which of the topics will you suggest as important? Please mention it for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics separately.

RKV: Every topic is important in itself. You must have a good command on the entire syllabus. You cannot afford to skip any topic in JEE Main and suffer later. You have sufficient time to prepare and equip yourself, so focus on studying all the topics. The number of papers have increased, and it has increased the chances of covering every topic in those papers. So, one must set a goal to complete the entire syllabus a month prior to the examination.

Careers360: Since the exam is now going to be fully computer based. How will you change your strategy to prepare the students for this mode of the exam?

RKV: Resonance has adopted the change. We have started preparing our students for the computer based exam pattern since last year. And have begun strategizing for the new change in the conduction pattern of the examination. We have communicated with our students in regards to this change.

Careers360: If students rely on coaching material, where do you extract that from? Which books are used for the purpose?

RKV: Relying on the coaching study material is one of the best options. The study material of Resonance is quite vast and efficient. We revise our study material after every exam and incorporate the new questions and patterns that come up in the exam. We have an entire team (R&D Team) working persistently on the improvement and effectiveness of the study material.

With these expert tips on JEE Main 2019 preparation, RKV wishes good luck to all the candidates.
