Careers360- Congratulations for your outstanding performance in JEE Advanced 2019 What was your reaction upon knowing your rank?
Manan Aggarwal : I was quite ecstatic, when I got to know my rank and the fact that I also became Haryana State Topper.
Careers360- Tell us something about yourself. Which board have you studied under? Which school did you studied in?
Manan Aggarwal : I live in Sonipat, and studied in Jankidas Kapur Public School under CBSE Board.
Careers360- What is your score in JEE Advanced 2019? What is your all India rank and category rank? What was your JEE Main rank and marks?
Manan Aggarwal : I scored 302 marks in JEE Advanced 2019, and got an All India Rank of 14. I had scored 341 marks in JEE Main, and secured an All India Rank of 194.
Careers360- Why do you want to study engineering? When did you decide to study engineering? Which branch would you be interested in? Any reason?
Manan Aggarwal : My favorite subject is Physics. It requires analytical approach to problem solving. Engineering has good application of physics. So, engineering became my natural career choice. I decided to pursue engineering at the end of 9th class. I would be joining IIT Bombay to study Computer Science Engineering (CSE).
Careers360- JEE Advanced was conducted as a computer based test. What is your opinion about it? What preparation strategy did you adapt for the computer based exam?
Manan Aggarwal : To do well in computer based tests, practicing in simulated environment (like the actual JEE testing platform) is the key. So, I used to solve Online Tests regularly, which were conducted by FIITJEE.
Careers360- When did you start your JEE Advanced preparation? Tell us something about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Advanced?
Manan Aggarwal : I started my JEE preparation from 10th class. I didn’t have any rigid time-table during preparatory days, but I used to study for about 12 hours a day.
Careers360- How was the preparation for JEE Advanced different from JEE Main?
Manan Aggarwal : JEE Main usually requires speed and accuracy while JEE Advanced, requires strong understanding of concepts and in-depth knowledge.
Careers360- Since there was just a month after the JEE Main, elaborate on your preparation strategy?
Manan Aggarwal : After the JEE main exam, I used to solve two papers everyday as per JEE Advanced pattern. After the test, with the help of my subject teachers at FIITJEE, I used to analyze my performance i.e. things that I did correctly and things that I didn’t. I used to also analyze the reasons for committing mistakes and prepare a study/revision plan to rectify those errors.
Careers360- Did you take coaching for JEE and if yes from where? What are the benefits of coaching according to you?’
Manan Aggarwal : Yes, I took coaching from FIITJEE Punjabi Bagh Centre. According to me, coaching institutes make us well-prepared for the final exam with the help of regular tests, quizzes and doubt classes; helps us to understand our shortcomings and provides remedy.
Careers360- Mock tests and sample papers – how extensively did you practice with the help of these? Do you think practicing from the previous year papers help and how?
Manan Aggarwal : I used to solve Mock Tests at least once a week. Yes, practicing questions from previous year papers is very helpful; as it helps to gain a very good idea of the type of questions that are frequently asked and their difficulty level.
Careers360- Are there any special books that you feel have helped with your JEE Advanced preparation?
Manan Aggarwal : Yes, for JEE preparation, I solved few books like H C Verma, Vikas Gupta, M S Chauhan and A K Jaiswal.
Careers360- Did you face any problem during the JEE Advanced examination? Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest in JEE Advanced? What do you think is a tough thing to manage during the JEE Advanced exam?
Manan Aggarwal : No, I did not face any difficulty during the exam. I think, chemistry was the easiest and Mathematics was the most difficult. Time and stress are the two most important & tough things to manage during the exam.
Careers360- What is the main difference between both the two papers in JEE Advanced?
Manan Aggarwal : There is no major difference between the two papers of JEE Advanced.
Careers360- Did you face any technical glitches during the exam? What is your opinion on the way the exam was conducted?
Manan Aggarwal : No, I did not face any technical glitches during the exam rather it went off quite smoothly.
Careers360- What do you think are the key factors behind your stupendous success in JEE Advanced?
Manan Aggarwal : The key factors behind my success is hard work, determination and constant effort put in by my parents and teachers at FIITJEE.
Careers360- How did you de-stress yourself during the preparation? What are your hobbies? How often could you pursue them?
Manan Aggarwal : I used to de-stress myself by listening to music and watching movies. I love playing badminton, which I couldn’t pursue very often during my preparatory days.
Careers360- Who is your ideal or biggest inspiration in life and why?
Manan Aggarwal : My biggest inspiration is my father, who has always taught me valuable lessons in life.
Careers360- You know you are an inspiration to thousands of students across the country. Do you have any message for future aspirants on tackling the JEE Advanced exam?
Manan Aggarwal : My message would be to try to enjoy the subjects that you study, as much as possible, it will help you to study well and try to make your preparatory days of Class XI & XII a wonderful experience.

Instead of thinking what will happen in JOSAA that too after JEE Adv, think what will happen if you dont even qualify JEE Main. (LOL)
On a serious note, JOSAA is a very simple counselling procedure, where after registration you need to set your preference according to your rank and are allotted seat accordingly in subsequent rounds of counselling.

can we use calculator in jee mains and jee advance exam?
Hello student ,
Calculators will not be allowed for JEE Main and advanced . The authorities have prohibited the use of calculators or any other electronic devices i n the exam centre .

No it is not necessary to be in top 2.5 Lakh rank holders but yes the cut-off percentile are decided in the way so that only around 2.5 Lakhs to 2.7 Lakhs candidates get eligible to sit for JEE-Advance. See the qualifying cut-off percentiles which needs to be cleared by any candidate to sit in JEE-Advance is released along with the final result of JEE-Main and for JEE-Main 2021 the final result will be released after all four attempts will be completed and the final result will be on the basis of your best score amongst different attempts. However basis on previous year's cut-off trends we can help you with the expected qualifying cut-offs for this year :-
- Common Rank List (CRL) - 90- 95 Percentile
- GEN-EWS - 70- 75 Percentile
- Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL) - 70- 75 Percentile
- Scheduled Caste (SC) - 50- 55 Percentile
- Scheduled Tribe (ST) - 40- 45 Percentile
- PwD - 1-2 Percentile
