The authority obtains the GATE 2026 marks based on the marking scheme. Below are the rules of the GATE 2026 marking scheme as per the GATE official website.
For Multiple Choice Questions: Each correct answer will get +1 or +2 marks. One wrong answer will get ⅓ or -⅔ marks, negative marking. Unanswered questions will get 0 marks.

The GATE score can be obtained with the help of the GATE 2026 normalisation formula. The authority uses this normalisation formula to give GATE 2026 scores to the candidates usign the raw marks calulated. Here is the GATE 2026 Normalisation Formula.
GATE Normalisation Formula : GATE Score = Sq + (st - sq) / Mt - Mq) X (M - Mq)
M refers to RAW marks
Mq means the qualifying marks of the GATE paper
Mt is Average raw marks of the top GATE candidates.
Sq = Qualifying marks score
St = Top marks score
The GATE scores and marks are two different terms. The GATE 2026 marks is out of 100, while GATE score 2026 is out of 1000. The GATE score is obtained by using the GATE normalisation formulae. Candidates can get their GATE marks with response sheet and making scheme. After calculating the correct and wrong answers through GATE 2026 response sheet by following the marking scheme, the result is GATE 2026 marks out of 100.
