GATE COAP Admission Process - How to apply for IIT after GATE

IIT Roorkee has concluded the COAP 2026 application forms for M.Tech admissions on the official website. Candidates looking for “how to apply for IIT after GATE” should note that they must apply at the respective institutes as well. However, the candidates will also have to register at GATE COAP 2026 for counselling. Candidates can access the list of offers from the institutes where they applied through COAP on the portal. This allows the candidates to check their options in one place and make their decision.

GATE COAP Eligibility 2026

Candidates who wish to register for GATE COAP 2026 have to meet the eligibility conditions as per the counselling for M.Tech through GATE 2026. Aspirants failing to meet any criterion will be disqualified from the admission process.

• Should have a valid GATE score from the years 2024, 2025 or 2026 to apply for COAP.
• Candidates having more than one valid GATE score will have to enter the highest score during registration; however, details about other scores will also be required.
• Candidates should also meet the eligibility criteria specified by the institute to which they are applying.

GATE 2026 CCMT Counselling

Centralised Counselling for M.Tech./ M.Arch./ M.Plan or CCMT is conducted for admission in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs based on GATE scores. Candidates with valid GATE scores have to complete the GATE CCMT counselling registration 2026 before the deadline.

GATE CCMT Admission 2026

For admissions to NITs, IIITs, and GFITs, candidates will have to participate in CCMT counselling 2026. There will be three regular rounds of IIT GATE counselling 2026. The GATE 20202625 counselling process will include steps of registration & payment of the fee, choice locking, and document verification. The final seat allotment will be based on the GATE 2026 scores/ranks, availability of seats, and choices locked by the candidates.

GATE CCMT Eligibility Criteria 2026

There are certain conditions and requirements laid down by the authorities, and students are required to meet all of them.

• Candidates should have a valid GATE score in 2024/2025/2026.
• Candidates should have passed and secured at least 6.5 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) or 60% for GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC, whereas 6.0 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) or 55% in the case of SC/ST/PwD candidates.
• Candidates possessing certificates/ qualifications from any of the professional societies with permanent recognition may also be eligible to participate in some of the PG programs through CCMT.

• A photo ID proof as per the Government of India norms.
• Mark sheet of Class XII.
• Grade/Mark sheets of the qualifying examination for all semesters.
• Degree/ Provisional certificate. If the result of the qualifying degree is awaited, a certificate of course completion from the institute/university last studied must be provided in the prescribed format available on the CCMT website.
• GATE scorecard (2024/2025/2026.
• Certificate of category (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS
• Certificate for Persons with Disabilities (PwD), if applicable.

IIT GATE Counselling 2026 - Key Points

• The exam conducting authority will not conduct centralised GATE 2026 Counselling.
• Candidates have to participate in the COAP and CCMT counselling 2026 for admissions in the participating institutes.
• COAP is conducted for admission to IITs based on GATE 2026 scores, while CCMT counselling is conducted for admissions to NITs, IIITs, and GFITs.
• Although admissions are done based on GATE scores 2026, many institutes also conduct a written test or interview for shortlisting candidates.
