i am in 4th semester in production engineering , everyone is advising me to give gate through mechanical engineering. what should i do?

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 22nd Jan, 2020
see gate exam is beneficial for you if you want to do mtech from iits or other reputed institute or want to do job in PSU. however I need to tell you that you may apply from mechnical, but during mtech admission, some of the core subjects of mtevh mechnical, it mention that candidate should be done btech in mechanical engineering. now coming to psus there is really less vacancy come for production engineering. now some of the PSUs which hires for mechanical engineering strictly mention that they want candidates who have done btech on mechanical engineering. so I suggest you don't depend on only gate exam, try to make your self job ready for college campus placement.

what are the benefits of gate exam

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 22nd Jan, 2020

see gate is important if you want to do mtech from iits or nits or any other aicte approved institute, if you have passion to work in indian psus like iocl, ntpc, ongc, mdl, bhel, bel etc gate exam is the only gate way since, this psus hires graduate engineers only through gate exam. some of the institute like national institute of industrial training has management course admission based on gate exam. some of the research institute like barc, drdo recruits the candidates through gate exam  score.

hope you may understand.

I scored 94.55 percentile in jee 2020.I am EWS-GENERAL i will gate NIT college or not.

Naufal Mohamed 21st Jan, 2020
With your percentage you will definetly get into an NIT. But which probably a not so good NIT into a non core subject. Even if you luckily get into a top NIT it will again be for a non core course.
You may look at the cutoffs for previous year NITs here
