GATE Counselling 2020 - Common offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) and Centralised Counselling for M.Tech/ M.Des (CCMT) conducts the GATE 2020 counselling. Candidates will have to separately apply for COAP and CCMT counselling for admissions after the result of GATE 2020 is announced by IIT Delhi. There are different methods of GATE 2020 counselling as per the type of institute selected by the candidates. For admissions into IITs, the candidates will have to apply to individual institute where admission is desired and register for Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAPS). The exam conducting authority of GATE 2020 do not hold a centralized counselling process for admissions.
Candidates have to apply for IIT admissions through COAP. Similarly, for admission into NITs, the candidates will have to apply through CCMT.
For admissions, the candidates will have to apply for COAP or CCMT as per their choice of institutes. However, the candidate will also be required to apply individually at the respective institutes too.
Candidates will be able to check their allotment through COAP or CCMT.
While most M.Tech admissions is done on the basis of GATE scores, some institutes may also conduct a written test or interview to take into consideration for admission.
Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) will release their individual application form for M.Tech admissions. The candidates will have to individually check the registration process and complete it. However, the candidates will also have to register at COAP 2020. Acting as a common platform, candidates will be able to access the list of offers from the institutes where they applied through COAP. This will allow the candidates to check their options in one place and make their decision.

For admissions into M.Tech courses offered by NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, the candidates will have to register through CCMT 2020. Through Centralized Counselling for M.Tech (CCMT), the candidates will have to fill their preferred institute and course. Allotment of seats will be done on the basis of the rank secured in GATE 2020 and preferences selected.
State Universities will be conducting separate counselling and admission process. The procedure will be held tentatively in March till July 2020. The candidates will have to fill separate application form to participate in the admission process. The criteria of admission will depend on the Universities. However, most Universities will use GATE scores for admissions.

In order to take the GATE exam, you have to have to have a graduation degree of at least four years.
In your case: B Sc. (Research)/ B.S.- Bachelor’s degree in Science (Post-Diploma/ 4 years after 10+2)
So it is has to be either B.Sc Research or if you have done BS from IISER, then you will be eligible to write the GATE exam.
