The GATE raw marks are candidates' direct, unadjusted scores out of 100. The marks are calculated from performance across 65 questions in MCQs, MSQs, and NATs. Candidates will be able to access their raw marks from the GATE answer key 2026. Check the GATE 2026 marking scheme taken for calculation.
GATE 2026 Marking Scheme
MCQs with 1 Mark: (Number of correct × 1) – (Number of incorrect × 1/3).
MCQs with 2 Mark: (Number of correct × 2) – (Number of incorrect × 2/3); unattempted gets zero.
MSQs with 1 or 2 Marks: No Negative Marking
NAT Questions 1 or 2 Marks: No Negative Marking
Follow the given calculation steps:
Candidates must tally correct/incorrect for each MCQ type using their GATE response sheet and official answer key.
Now, compute MSQ/NAT totals: full for exact matches, partial proportional to correct options, zero for fully wrong/unattempted.
At the end, sum up all with the given equation: Raw Marks = MCQ1 + MCQ2 + MSQ + NAT (max 100).
The GATE exam authority uses the normalisation process formulas to calculate the GATE scores of candidates. The image provided below is the formula used to calculate the normalised marks of a candidate. The GATE score is calculated on a scale of 1 to 1000.
