Careers360: Congratulations for your outstanding performance in JEE Advanced 2015! How did you celebrate your success?
Mukesh: Thanks a lot. I celebrated this victory with my close ones. The day after the result I spent the entire day with my friends, watched ABCD 2 amidst congratulatory messages pouring in from well wishers.
Careers360: Were you sure of cracking the prestigious JEE Advanced 2015 exam? How did you make it possible?
Mukesh: I was very much confident of qualifying this exam with a good rank. I thought that I would be among top 10 rankers, but I didn’t expect to secure AIR 3. So I got better than my expectation. The reason behind this was my consistent efforts.
Careers360: What is your score in JEE Advanced 2015? Is it more or less as compared to JEE Main score?
Mukesh: I scored 449 out of a total of 504 in JEE Advanced. In JEE Main, my score was 325 out of 360. I performed comparatively better in JEE Advanced although I scored more in JEE Main. The strict marking scheme of JEE Advanced made the paper quite tough but I am happy that I got through.
Careers360: What was your preparation strategy and routine study period for JEE Advanced?
Mukesh: I used to study for 10 hours a day with complete concentration during the preparation time. I always gave my 100% whenever I sat down to study. In these last two years, I worked really hard in order to crack this exam.
Careers360: Now that you are the topper of JEE Advanced, what do you think was the key factor behind your spectacular performance?
Mukesh: Consistent hard work is the key factor behind my success. I maintained the same excitement level during my preparation phase that I had on the first day. I saw a lot of highs and lows in these two years but never got demotivated. In the last few months, I studied a lot and put all my energy into it.
Careers360: Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest according to you during the preparation period?
Mukesh: I found Chemistry comparatively difficult. In the last four months, I devoted 90% of my time in studying this subject only. I found Mathematics very easy and enjoyed solving numerical problems. But when the results were out, I was surprised to see that I scored the highest marks in Physics section.
Careers360: How did you find the difficulty level of JEE Advanced 2015 exam?
Mukesh: According to me, the question paper was easy, but the paper pattern was a bit surprising in terms of difficulty level. Moreover, the negative marking further made the paper tough to solve.
Careers360: Tell us something about your family. Was there some pressure from your parents?
Mukesh: I live in a joint family. My father runs a transport business and my mother is a homemaker. My elder brother, who is also my ideal, is studying at Institute of Engineering and Technology, DAVV. He helped me in solving my problems and he also inspires me a lot.
There was no pressure from them at all. They have supported me a lot at every step. Whenever I wanted to go out with my friends to relax a bit, they never stopped me.
Careers360: Do you think coaching is necessary to crack JEE Advanced exam?
Mukesh: According to me, attending coaching classes can prove to be very helpful for you during the preparation time. I myself took coaching and was mentored by the best teachers, who guided me in the right way. The coaching provided me very good study material. I was given expert guidance that made the preparation journey a lot easier. But still, I opine that a student can crack this exam without taking coaching classes. Sincere self-study is needed, whether you do that at your home or at coaching class.
Careers360: It was quite a busy preparation schedule for you. Could you find time to connect with your friends during your preparation?
Mukesh: All my friends used to study with me in my coaching class. So, I met them daily. We stayed there together and studied from morning till night. So, I was connected with my friends easily.
Careers360: Are you active on Facebook or any other social media platform?
Mukesh: I have an account on Facebook, but I was not that active on it during the preparation time due to paucity of time. But as the exam is over now, I would like to browse a bit more.
Careers360: Did you turn to any recreational activity before appearing for JEE Advanced exam?
Mukesh: I love reading books as it relaxes me a lot. Till class 10, I used to read novels, but after that, I got busy in studying my course books only. I also like to watch Hollywood and Bollywood movies. I have watched ‘ABCD 2’ recently and I liked it. Listening to music and spending time with my friends also revived my mind when I got stressed.
Careers360: Which is your favorite sport? Do you play any sport?
Mukesh: My favorite sport is Cricket. I used to play it earlier, but due to my hectic study schedule in the last two years, I didn’t get a chance to spare time for this.
Careers360: Please share your message for JEE aspirants who will be appearing for the entrance exam next year.
Mukesh: I would like to suggest them that consistent hard work is an essential to crack JEE Advanced. Be focused whenever you sit down to study and take small breaks whenever you get tired. Give your 100% especially in the last few months and never get demotivated even if you couldn’t perform well.
Careers360: Which is your preferred IIT and engineering branch?
Careers360: Careers360 wishes you all the best for your future!
Mukesh: Thanks a lot!

Questions related to JEE Advanced
preparatory students have to give again jee mains to attend jee advanced or can direct give jee advanced ?
No, you must retake the JEE mains if you wish to sit for the JEE advanced. If you are a dropper, you have the choice of reappearing for either your boards or your jee, or both. However, for jee advanced, jee mains is required. The IITs made this choice to ensure that first-time qualifiers are not disadvantaged. Another issue is that there's a probability you'll forget the notions within a year.
Hope this helps

JEE is a national level examination conducted at two levels i.e. JEE mains and JEE-Advance.
JEE mains is conducted to get admission into NITs, IIITs and GFTI. The questions of JEE mains are slightly on the easier side. The question paper comprises of two sections: Section 1st contains 20 MCQs and next section consists of 10 subjective questions out of which 5 are to be attempted. The exam is conducted in Computer based mode. You have to qualify mains to be permitted to write JEE-Advance. Last year cutoffs for OBC candidates was 74.31 percentile. It is conducted 4 times in a year.
JEE-ADVANCE is a bit on the tougher side and conducted once after JEE mains and top 2.5 lakh candidates are allowed to write the exam. It is for admission into IITs. For a obc candidate to get admission into IIT a rank around 3000-5000 can ensure you a seat. There is no particular pattern of JEE-ADVANCE paper. It comprises of comprehension, single correct, multiple correct, integer type, match matrix. The basis of these exam is NCERT but you will also need some other books like cengage, arihant to practice the questions and take your preparation to a good level.
Hope this information helps you.
What is the requirement of score in JEE Advanced to get a rank between 2500 to 3000 ??
As per your query let me tell you this is a very difficult thing to predict because the dynamics gets changed every year depending upon certain factors like number of candidates appearing in the examination, number of vacant seats in college, previous years cut offs and difficulty level of the paper.
But I would give you prediction as per my knowledge but it may vary due to above factors. So to get a rank of 2.5k -3k you need atleast 180 marks approximately to be on a safer side.
