IIT Kharagpur, the Organising institute of GATE 2022 has just come out with the latest information regarding new papers in GATE 2022, after the National Coordination Board(NCB-GATE) meeting held on Saturday. Prof. Deepankar Choudhury, organising chairman of the GATE exam told: "the two new papers will be Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Geomatics Engineering". The chairman further said, "There is a plan to increase exam centres keeping in mind the aspirants from smaller towns during the pandemic, as it found to be very successful last year."
GATE Expert Opinion by APSEd 2022:
Last year in GATE 2021, we also saw two new papers (Humanities, Environmental science and Engineering) and the decision came out really well. Total 9183 students appeared for the Environmental Science paper and 14196 students appeared for Humanities. The timing and date of the examinations were set so proper so that a student can appear for 2 papers and students in the third year were made eligible for GATE. This article is all about the expected syllabus and overview of these two papers.
GATE Geomatics Engineering
Geomatics engineering is a key field for measuring, modelling, and presenting geospatial data and various phenomena. The latest technological developments such as global satellite navigation, autonomous navigation, driver assistance systems, digital maps and virtual globes have enhanced the public’s understanding of this field.
Geomatics is a wide subject that will find many students starting from B.Sc., M.Sc, B.Tech., etc. Hope the decision will come out as a great one. There are some similar topics related to Geomatics in the B.Tech./B.E. Surveying course. So it will help Civil Engineers to take a chance in this paper.
GATE Geomatics Engineering: Tentative Syllabus
The GATE2022 syllabus is expected to be released by August. Geomatics Engineering is a section of the GATE Civil Engineering (CE) Syllabus. It includes- Principles of surveying; Errors and their adjustment; Maps - scale, coordinate system; Distance and angle measurement - Levelling and trigonometric levelling; Traversing and triangulation survey; Total station; Horizontal and vertical curves. Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing - Scale, flying height; Basics of remote sensing and GIS. So, we can expect a wider version of this syllabus.
The paper is so fresh that guessing the syllabus and other things would be too uncertain this time. We will have to wait till August/September to hear all the updates regarding these subjects from the organising institute.
M.Tech Course on Geomatics in IITs and NITs
The course structure of IIT Roorkee Geomatics Engineering will give you a slightly more idea about the depth of this paper.
GATE Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
After demand from the shipping ministry, it was decided to include naval architecture and marine engineering as one of the papers, said organising chairman of GATE 2021, Prof. Deepankar Choudhury.
As you might know, more than 70% of the earth is made up of water. Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering plays the role in navigating through it. They deal with the design of floating vessels and the integration of their components.
While the Naval Architects design the vessel, Marine Engineers are tasked to ensure that the ship systems function as per the design.
Expected GATE Syllabus 2022
The official syllabus of GATE 2022 is expected to be released by August. IIT Kharagpur has a similar department named Ocean Engg and Naval Architecture. IIT Madras has a similar department Ocean Engineering, which comprises so many courses. The course details are somewhat similar to Geotechnical Engineering.
Marine Foundation Engineering is taught as a B.Tech. Program Elective in NIT Trichy, the syllabus of the same is quite related to Geotechnical Engineering.
M.Tech Course on Marine Engineering in IITs: IITs like IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay and IIT Madras have this course in M.Tech. Course Structure.
Disclaimer: The information regarding the syllabus is not taken from any official source. We will have to await the syllabus for these new papers, and what sort of paper combinations are possible.

Questions related to GATE
which is tough GATE exam or JEST exam ?
GATE and JEST are both national level entrance exams. JEST is a screening test for admission to PhD and Int. PhD programme of different participating institutes in physics and theorertical computer science / neuroscience. Whereas GATE is General aptitude test to get admission in M.tech program in IITs or any other reputed institutes. Being national level exams, both have good level of questions. But these two exams cannot be compared as one is for admission in M.tech while other is for admission in Phd.
Hope I answered your query, thankyou!

But if you can study MCA then you are eligible to write GATE exam in 2 nd year or 3 rd year of MCA. Master students from any discipline like M.Sc, M.Tech, MCA etc can write GATE exam.
