Recruitment in various PSUs is usually conducted on the basis of GATE scores. While all of the candidates are needed to have qualified GATE with the required cutoff, the specific scores for the recruitment will be announced by each company. For some GATE PSU recruitments, only the present year score will be accepted while some recruitment also accepts previous year scores.
Some companies use the GATE scores as a direct means of recruitment. However, some companies use the scores for shortlisting after which an interview, test, or group discussions may be held to make the final recruitment decision. For example, Haryana Power Utilities Recruitment does not conduct any interviews and discussions, the recruitment is done solely based on GATE scores. Meanwhile, DRDO RAC Recruitment will shortlist candidates on the basis of their GATE scores for a descriptive examination after which a personal interview is also held.

There are three types of Jobs in PSU through GATE 2023 in India which are classified on the basis of various parameters such as the Indian Stock Exchange, global presence, annual revenue, and income generated.
Maharatna PSUs (BHEL, GAIL, IOCL, SAIL and more)
Navratna PSUs (BEL, Oil Indian Limited, Power Grid and more)
Mini-ratna PSUs (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, PEC Limited, THDC India Limited and more)
Having a GATE score is definitely the most important eligibility criterion for PSU recruitment. However, PSU also has certain requirements other than GATE scores to select candidates for the available posts. Therefore, all candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria before applying for a PSU. Criteria such as age limit, pass percentage of CGPA obtained during graduation and more will also be checked by some PSUs.

Hi,
As you have mentioned, you are interested in GATE only and not in placements . My suggestion would be, to go for colleges which have placement records (obviously MIT and VIT have good placements) because one cannot take risk of having only GATE as an option after college .
GATE is a national level competition, in which scoring well really needs hard-work and dedication, yes, you can, but I suggest to not only depend on this.
Bachelor's degree in engineering is a four years of long and exploratory journey, in which people change their decisions. People ideology when taking admission and when passing out in reality are changed most of the time.
MIT Manipal B.Tech fees ranges between 8 Lakh to 16 Lakh . (only academic)
VIT Vellore B.Tech fees ranges between 8 Lakh to 10 Lakh . (only academic)
Both colleges are really good and have reputation for its teaching and placements. I suggest you to choose college which is nearer to your home location.
I hope it covers your doubt .
Thank you!
Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad is the fastest growing 2nd generation IIT and has also outpaced many older IITs in many pointers. So, as far as the placement in MTech mechanical is concerned, then replying to a RTI, IIT Hyderabad stated that in the 2017-19 batch, 16 students were placed out of 25 and in 2018-19 batch, 17 were placed out of 24, which is a great number.
So, in all IIT Hyderabad is a good place to pursue MTech in Mechanical engineering. All the best!
Hello Aspirant,
If we go through the analysis of previous year's GATE score Vs College allotment than according to the GATE 2022 score mentioned by you in the query, you have very low or almost no chances of VLSI in IIT Guwahati.
