PSU recruitment on the basis of GATE scores has been soaring in popularity among eligible candidates due to a variety of factors:
Being a computer based test, GATE scores are often seen as unbiased in nature. Since it is seen as a reliable exam, the scores are used for recruitment process so that no one feels unfair.
PSUs offer stable jobs with good pay. The secure job can be for a lifetime for the candidates. However at PSUs, more than ability, seniority is awarded.
There are a lot of perks involved with PSU recruitment. The selected candidates are given health care facilities, house allowances and more. Additional perks (foreign trips, extended leaves and more) may depend on the supervisor so the candidates are advised to keep a positive equation with him/her.
If the candidates enjoy a dynamic environment then PSUs might seem like not a really good idea since it is very slow in implementing new policies and innovative changes. However, this can also lead to the candidates starting off and persuading the companies for a change.
Candidates can check the previous years cutoff to know what are the GATE cutoff scores for PSUs to be secured for recruitment. Using the previous years cutoff, the candidates can set a target and accordingly prepare for the examination.

Candidates are now looking for the best preparation methods for the GATE exam. One of the best ways to boost preparation for any entrance test is to scan and research the best available books which can cater to your needs correctly. Here are some of the important aspects of choosing a book for your GATE exam.
First of all, it should be easy for candidates to read and understand the books. If the concepts and chapters are explained in a simplified way, the candidates will be able to understand without much use of the technical terms. This will allow candidates to have a deeper understanding of the issues.
Since the GATE 2020 summary consists of many complex pages, the books should try to keep the interpretation clear and descriptive. The books should have accurate information on the chapters and topics discussed in the GATE syllabus.
Candidates should not use any books with misleading information. Applicants are more likely to retain what they have learned if there are diagrams in help topics and chapters in the textbooks. The best books to use during training are those with a simple language.

However if we look at previous years cutoff of nit surat for communication system the closing was 526 in 2018 and 566 in 2017 for open category.
You can check the previous years cutoff score
So with previous years cutoff trends you can expect a score around 500 in 2020 as safe score to secure a seat in electronics and communication for a general category candidate.
Sorry, but unfortunately 40 marks in GATE are not enough to get into top NITs, if you are of General or OBC category. But, you have chances of getting into lower to middle tier NITs. Now it also depends on the branch you gave GATE in. The cutoff differs for different branches.
