Careers360: Congratulations for your performance in JEE Main 2020! What was your reaction upon knowing your score?
Divyanshu: Frankly speaking, my exam went well but i was not expecting such a stupendous score. I had an inkling that I'll score a good percentile, but the result came as a pleasant surprise to me and my family.
Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. Which board have you studied under? Which school have you studied in?
Divyanshu: I have studied from CBSE Board. I am currently studying in Shree Ram Ideal School, Hisar.
Careers360: What is your score in JEE Main 2020?
Divyanshu: Physics-100, Mathematics-100, Chemistry-92
Careers360: Why do you want to study engineering? When did you decide to study engineering? Which branch would you be interested in? Any reason?
Divyanshu: I want to study engineering because I really like studying the subjects ie maths, physics and chemistry. I decided to study engineering in my 9th standard when I developed a liking for mathematics and physics. I would be interested in studying Computer Science because I want to study computer algorithms and also study with the best brains of the country as a majority of toppers opt for Computer Science.
Careers360: When did you start your JEE Main preparation? Tell us something about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Main?
Divyanshu: I started my JEE Main preparation in 11th Standard. My preparation strategy was very clear from the very beginning. I was always confident about Mathematics and Physics. So, I made it a point to devote a considerable time to Chemistry, and gain an edge in the subject. As far as my daily routine was concerned, I didn't follow any specific schedule; however I made sure that I study 8-9 hours daily with utmost concentration to make the most out of whatever time I study for.
Careers360: Did you face any difficulties since the examination was conducted completely in computer based mode?
Divyanshu: No, I did not face any difficulties.
Careers360: Was there a difference in the preparation strategy in the last months of JEE Main considering that the board exams are also coming up? How did you manage preparation for both?
Divyanshu: There was no major difference in my preparation strategy in the last months before JEE Mains as I focussed primarily on JEE Mains only and I decided to start preparing for my boards only once JEE Mains got done.
Careers360: Did you take coaching for JEE Main and if yes from where? What are the benefits of coaching according to you?
Divyanshu: Yes, I took coaching from Vidyamandir Classes. Coaching gave me the best materials for each subject, and thus gave me an edge over others.
Careers360: Mock tests and sample papers – how extensively did you practise with the help of these? Do you think practising from the previous year papers help and how?
Divyanshu: Honestly speaking, I did not practise a lot of sample papers or previous year question papers. However, I gave some mock tests to get a sense of the timing and the exam hall atmosphere.
Careers360: Are there any special books that you feel have helped with your JEE Main preparation? Are the school text books adequate for preparing for JEE Main and Class XII?
Divyanshu: The following books helped me with my JEE Preparation-
Physics- DC Pandey
Organic chemistry- MS Chouhan
Physical Chemistry- Narendra Awasthi
The school textbooks are adequate for Class XII board exams. However, preparation for JEE Mains definitely requires studying some books and practice beyond the school text books. But aspirants must remember that NCERT textbook for organic chemistry is very helpful, and that for inorganic chemistry is 100 percent sufficient in itself. Students should not underestimate school textbooks.
Careers360: Did you face any problems during the JEE Main examination? Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest in JEE Main? What do you think is a tough thing to manage during the JEE Main exam?
Ans: No, I did not face any problems during the JEE Main examination as all the subjects were of my choice. The easiest subject was Physics, while the toughest was Chemistry in my JEE Mains exam. Time management during the exam and keeping your calm while solving the problems in the exam is a tough thing to do.
Careers360: What do you think are the key factors behind your stupendous success in JEE Main?
Divyanshu: The key factor, according to me was my keen and avid interest in all the three subjects, and that I always looked forward to learning new things and concepts during my preparation.
Careers360: Will you be appearing for the April session of JEE Main 2020 too?
Divyanshu: No, no plans as of now.
Careers360: How did you de-stress yourself during the preparation? What are your hobbies? How often could you pursue them?
Divyanshu: I de-stressed by talking and spending time with my grandparents, sister and parents- all of whom were always there for me during my preparation. They have always been my pillars of support through the thick and the thin. I like playing badminton, chess and carrom. I mostly got time to pursue my hobbies. Sometimes, it was these hobbies only that rejuvenated me and kept my preparation mode on.
Careers360: Who is your ideal or biggest inspiration in life and why?
Divyanshu: The biggest inspiration in my life has been the great physicist Richard Feynman as his perspective towards Science is great and he has always learnt science for the love of it, he goes beyond the textbook understanding of natural phenomena and his teaching style comes as a pleasure to all across the intellectual spectrum.
Careers360: You know you are an inspiration to thousands of students across the country. Do you have any message for future aspirants on tackling the JEE Main exam?
Divyanshu: My message for all future aspirants is that study for the love of science and the subjects, and not for the exam. If you'll put in the requisite efforts to understand the basics, you'll definitely do a great job in the exam.

Yes, ideally if you have completed your full JEE Syllabus, you must regularly solve one or two Full Syllabus Papers, Previous Years, Mock Tests as well as Test Series, besides regular revision. But do ensure after the test you do proper analysis of the paper and note all the unknown and new information you came across during the test.
