The choice of joining NIT Meghalaya is completely upto what you are interested in and what your comfort zone is.
There are a few factors to consider.
1. NIT Meghalaya is a very new campus and hence the faculty, alumni network, course structure, internship.opportunities are all very sloppy.
2. If you aren't looking for continuing in engineering after this, then you can definitely choose Meghalaya campus and you'll be able to get the NIT tag and pursue whatever your passionate about.
3. If you are interested in getting into software companies or engineering after this, then choose some well established private colleges like VIT, Amrita, Manipal.
4. If you are getting core branches in other NITs choose that and learn programming , do software related internships etc.

NIT Meghalaya is a newer NIT as compared to most of the other NITs. It was established in 2010, in Shillong. Students often complain about its not-so-good infrastructure and location/transport problem because of the current temporary campus. However, its permanent campus is under development in Cherrapunji.
Now, regarding your query, CSE department at NIT Meghalaya is known to have bagged the most number of job offers in the past years. Placement records are near about 95%.
The faculties are well experienced and good. Research work, hands on practise is provided to the students. Curriculum is well structured and flexible.
Meghalaya is known for its breathtaking scenic beauty and of course, rains. The rainy period of the year lasts for about 9.8 months.
On the basis of student reviews, it is safe for girls. It has separate accommodation for girls and separate for boys.

National Institute of Technology Meghalaya, is one of the fastest growing NIT in north eastern states.

Compared to other new NITs in NE, NIT Meghalaya has one of the finest placements.
Teaching:
This is one thing that can be bragged about. NIT Meghalaya very very nice faculty members (better than many old NITs). They are very supportive as well as well qualified.
Extra-Carricular:
Except studies, NIT Meghalaya is well involved in sports. Quite good number of sportsmen are their (which have represented the institute in other NITs/IITs). It also has other functioning clubs (like literature club, Google Student Community , Entrepreneurship cell,Robotics club, Computer club etc). It also has active wings of NSS,NCC.
Festivals:
NIT Meghalaya proudly hosts Cognitia (tech fest) and Shishir (Sports and Culture fest) each year.
Along with college festivals, even religious as well as national festivals are celebrated.
