JEE Advanced 2025 Eligibility Criteria Changes: IIT Kanpur has released the JEE Advanced eligibility criteria 2025 on the official website, jeeadv.ac.in. According to the notification, a candidate can attempt JEE Advanced for a maximum of two times in two consecutive years. However, candidates who dropped college between November 5 to 18, 2024 are also eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2025. Candidates who appeared in Class XII (or equivalent) exam in 2023 or earlier, are NOT eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2025 exam, irrespective of the combination of subjects attempted/offered. The JEE Advanced 2025 entrance exam is being conducted on May 18, 2025.

For JEE Advanced 2025 eligibility criteria, OCI/PIO cardholders who obtained their status before March 4, 2021, will be treated as Indian nationals for IIT seat allocation. For JEE Advanced 2025, candidates must have passed Class XII (or equivalent) with a minimum of five subjects and secured at least 75% aggregate marks. SC, ST, and PwD candidates must obtain at least 65% aggregate marks.

JEE Advanced Age limit: Candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 2000. Five years age relaxation is given to SC, ST, and PwD candidates, i.e. these candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1995.
JEE Advanced Number of Attempts: A candidate (other than the college dropouts from November 5 to 18, 2024) can attempt JEE (Advanced) maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
Appearance in Class 12 examination: JEE Advanced 2025 is available only to students who are appearing for the Class 12 (or equivalent) exam for the first time in 2023, 2024, or 2025, with mathematics, physics, and chemistry as mandatory subjects.
Earlier admission at IITs: A candidate who has been admitted to an IIT course listed in JoSAA business rules is not eligible for JEE Advanced 2025. Candidates whose admission to IITs was cancelled after joining are also not eligible. Candidates who have been admitted to a preparatory course in the IITs for the first time in 2024 are eligible.

Candidates must be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in B.E./B.Tech. paper (Paper I) of JEE Main 2025. The percentages of various categories of candidates to be shortlisted are as follows: 10% for GEN-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and the remaining 40.5% is OPEN for all. Within each of these five categories, 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates.
The Supreme Court has approved the changes made to JEE Advanced 2025 eligibility. The Joint Admission Board (JAB) has reinstated the two-attempt rule for two consecutive years, except for students who left their BTech studies to attempt JEE Advanced 2025 for a third time. Previously, candidates were allowed three attempts in different years, but from 2025 onwards, they can only appear for the exam twice in consecutive years. Regarding the syllabus, there are no changes, and JEE Advanced 2025 will follow the same syllabus as 2024, covering Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced twice in two consecutive years. Those appearing for JEE Advanced 2025 for the first time can also appear for JEE Advanced 2026.
For JEE Advanced eligibility, General and OBC candidates must have at least 75% in their 12th board exams, while SC/ST candidates require 65%. Additionally, candidates must be within the top 20 percentile of their respective category in the qualifying examination.
Students have two attempts, one per year, to pass the JEE Advanced exam in two consecutive years. Earlier, the authority had announced that JEE Advanced 3 attempts would be allowed. For JEE Advance, the best 5 subjects through which you need to calculate your percentage is:
1. Physics
2. Chemistry
3. Mathematics
4. One language (which is English)
5. One other subject of your choice
So you will need to choose PCM + English + a 5th subject to calculate your percentage.

In JEE Advanced eligibility, the top 5 subjects from your board exam are considered. Usually, they are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and any two other subjects from the main curriculum. If CMS is your optional subject and IT is an additional subject, the board will still calculate based on the 5 highest marks from your eligible subjects. Additional subjects are considered only if they replace a lower score from another subject. For example, if IT has a higher score than English or CMS, then IT can be counted. However, some boards follow strict rules where only main subjects are counted, so you must verify with your board’s official notification. The 75% criteria means your average percentage in those best 5 subjects must meet the requirement. My advice—list all your subjects, arrange them from highest to lowest marks, and take the top five as per rules.

Getting under AIR 100 in JEE Advanced in 6 months is very tough but possible if you already have strong basics and are scoring high in JEE Main-level tests. You'll need 10–12 hours of focused daily study, advanced problem-solving, and regular mock tests. If you're starting from scratch, it's unlikely, but you can still aim for a good IIT rank with consistent effort.

To qualify for the JEE Advanced, you need to score a certain percentile or above. This percentile may change depending on those years competition. Generally you need a percentile of 93-94 to qualify for the JEE Advanced. So, every year only 250,000 candidates from the JEE Mains out of all candidates qualify for the JEE Advanced exam.
