Will JEE Main Shift to Offline Mode After Parliamentary Panel’s Recommendations?- The Parliamentary panel reviewing the JEE Main 2026 exam mode has recommended returning back to the offline mode. According to the report, a parliamentary standing committee on education has suggested that NTA consider changing the JEE Main exam mode from the current online format back to an offline mode. In 2013 exam was conducted in both offline (pen-and-paper) and online (CBT). However, starting in 2019, the exam has been conducted exclusively in CBT mode. There is no official notification by the authority regarding the JEE Main 2026 exam mode on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. Hence, it can be assumed that the NTA JEE Main exam will be conducted in online mode for now. Details about the parliamentary committee findings and whether the JEE Main 2026 exam will go offline are given below.

This recommendation was put forth due to various issues during the JEE Main exam in the previous session, the most serious being that almost 12 questions were retracted from the final JEE Main 2025 answer key. Hence, a common doubt is "Will JEE Main Shift to Offline Mode After Parliamentary Panel’s Recommendations?"
The JEE Main 2026 exam dates for session 1 are from January 21 to 30, while the April session is scheduled from April 1 to 9, 2026. Hence, candidates are wondering if the NTA JEE Main exam 2026 will be taken offline at the last minute. The panel put forth this proposal after a string of failures by the various entrance exams conducted by NTA, including CUET, CSIR NET, UGC NET, NEET UG and JEE Main.

According to the findings of the parliamentary panel, they have recommended that taking the JEE Main 2026 exam back to the offline pen and paper mode would be a good move by NTA. Comparison was drawn with the CBSE and the UPSC exams, which are pen and paper and have never suffered any leaks or technical difficulties. Hence, the parliamentary panel is recommending that NTA take the exam offline. However, there is no official update from NTA on the matter as of yet. Hence, the JEE Main 2026 exam will be held in online mode.
In the 2025 session of JEE Main, around 12 questions were removed from the JEE Main final answer key due to errors like out-of-syllabus questions, incorrect options and mistranslations. Other major exams conducted by NTA also faced similar issues and paper leaks. Hence, the educational parliamentary authority has recommended that NTA revert to the traditional method of pen and paper, offline exam.
The recommendation by the parliamentary committee is only a policy suggestion. Until an official notification is published by either the Ministry of Education or NTA on their respective official websites, the authority will conduct the JEE Main exam according to the previously announced format. Hence, candidates should continue their JEE Main preparations for the JEE Main 2026 online mode.
Candidates must keep checking the NTA official website for any updates about the JEE Main offline format. Additionally, candidates must also check the official website of the Ministry of Education for any updates on the same. However, candidates must continue preparing for the JEE Main 2026 exam in the same format as they have been doing till now to avoid preparing for the wrong mode, in case the exam mode is not changed to the offline pen and paper format.
