About: Hindusthan College of Engineering and Technology (Autonomous) was established in 2000. The institution is recognised under Section 2(f) and 12B of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is an Autonomous Institution since 2016, affiliated to Anna University, Chennai with permanent affiliation for most of the programmes, approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Hindusthan College of Engineering is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) ‘A++’ Grade with a CGPA of 3.69 out of 4 in Cycle 2. HICET Coimbatore courses are offered at UG and PG levels across different streams including engineering, management and business administration, computer application and IT.

Q. Tell us about your domain and your work profile. At the professional level, did you pursue the same field you were interested or you switched?

Ans: I'm working in a Clinical Research domain. I'm a Statistical Programmer, part of clinical trial phase studies in a drug development process. Experienced in COVID-19 Phase 2 vaccine study. In my college days, I've been very much curious about drug development. So the position I'm currently in the drug development process, I can say that I pursued my interest at the professional level.

Q. Can you briefly tell us about your career path so far?

Ans: After my schooling, I did my undergraduate in Biotechnology at Hindusthan College of Arts and Sciences, Coimbatore. Then, I continued my postgraduation in Biotechnology at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. Currently, I am a Statistical Programmer at ACL Digital Chennai.

Q. Is the Industry work different from what you learnt at HICET Coimbatore?

Ans: Yes, the industry is different from the perspective I had in college before entering the job. Adapting to the working environment of the industry is the key.

Q. How do you think your time in HICET Coimbatore has added value to your life, both professional and personal?

Ans: My time in college has added value to my professional and personal. As common, technical skills are mandatory. Apart from that, soft skills that were developed in college play a huge role when working in an office culture. Skill, attitude, behaviour, and competence are the key things that have been developed in college days that add value to professional work.

Q. What was your initial thought process when you joined HICET Coimbatore?

Ans: My initial thought process when I joined college used to be gaining subject knowledge. But later I understood that college is a place where we get exposed to different people and activities. It is not only about what college teaches us, it is all about what we are making out of our college life by being part of every aspect.

Q. You must have spent a memorable time at HICET. Do you miss being a part of it? Share a few good memories.

Ans: Surely I spent my memorable time in college and I miss a lot. On the whole, HICET is a collection of good memories and not selectable ones.

Q. Briefly take us through your life at the campus, the activities you used to do and your routine life.

Ans: As I'm a day scholar, I always used to come on time to college and leave on time back home. This will be my routine mostly in college time in 1st year. On moving to the 2nd year I had a good start and suddenly lockdown sacked my college time for nearly 1 year. Coming back to the college after lockdown had a fresh feel and engaged in the lab after college hours for my project works and leaving home with the hope of getting the expected results in the experiment by the next day.

Q. Apart from academics, what were the other activities you were involved in and how did it enrich your life?

Ans: Apart from academics, I had a good time in college culture. The one month on cultural practices was a memorable one with Hilaricas. I had a good time attending various conferences in Coimbatore at different colleges. Attending the international conference in MSSRF Chennai and meeting the great scientist M.S. Swaminathan was a memorable one.

Q. How did you keep updated with the industrial requirements and what was the role of the institute in it?

Ans: Industrial requirements are technically sound students with soft skills. In my career, college played a big role in it.

Q. You are a proud alumnus of HICET Coimbatore. What is the best part of HICET from a student’s perspective?

Ans: As an alumnus of HICET, I can proudly say I have walked through my under graduation in one of the best colleges in the city. The best part of the college is managing both academic and fun aspects smoothly. This helps students to engage in every activity and helps them to build a strong path to their careers.

Q. What is your suggestion/ guidance for the aspirants?

Ans: My suggestion to the aspirants of HICET is to build strong domain knowledge, engage in every activity in college, build leadership quality, keep a wide eye on learning new things apart from your subject and enjoy every moment.
