Jabalpur Engineering College was the first engineering institution established in the State in 1947. SGS Institute of Technology & Science, Indore was another, established in 1952 that figured among the first few places in MP to study engineering. In the last decade the numbers of colleges have risen sharply to 220+. It is interesting that these are concentrated in 25 districts out of 48. Among the 220 institutes associated with PET, most of the intake (61%) is in 3 disciplines: ECE (20637), CSE (18381), and Mechanical (17063). Civil and IT have 12627 & 11415 seats respectively.
The process governed by Professional Exam Board prescribe the candidates to hold an Indian Nationality, be bonafide resident of MP and pass either HSC (XII) from MP Board/other recognized board or Diploma in Engineering or Architecture by a recognized university
The PET exam is an objective paper which has three sections of Maths, Physics, and Chemistry of 300 marks each. In addition to the 220 institutes in MP conducting admission using PET, students can gain admission in others through any of the following routes:
