With the CBSE results declared on April 27, there has been some rejoicing and some disappointments. Amongst the rejoicing ones is Vishwajeet Agrawal who has scored AIR 5 in JEE Main 2017. A student of Bhagat Public School, Kota, Vishwajeet has a deep interest in Mathematics and would like to study computer science engineering. He believes in self-confidence and feels conceptual clarity is a requisite to taste success in JEE Main. His stress busters are playing cricket and listening to Brahmakumari teachings. Speaking to Careers360, Vishwajeet talks about his journey through JEE Main Preparation.
Careers360 - Congratulations for your outstanding performance in JEE Main 2017! What was your reaction upon knowing your rank?
Vishwajeet - I was happy knowing my rank. It is a good feeling to know that your hard work has paid off.
Careers360 - Tell us something about yourself. Which board have you studied under? Which school have you studied in?
Vishwajeet - I come from UP. I came to Kota in class XI to take coaching for JEE Main.
I have studied from Bhagat Public School, Kota with CBSE board.
Careers360 - What is your score in JEE Main 2017? What is your All India Rank?
Vishwajeet- My JEE Main score is 345 out of 360. My All India Rank is 5.
Careers360 - Did you appear for the offline JEE Main exam or the online one? What is the reason behind this choice of yours?
Vishwajeet - I appeared for JEE Main exam in the offline mode. I haven't appeared in any online exam before; therefore, I was skeptical about attempting it in the online mode. I was more comfortable in offline mode hence my choice.
Careers360- Why do you want to study engineering? When did you decide to study engineering? Which branch would you be interested in? Any reason?
Vishwajeet- I always had an inclination towards logical subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; therefore, I decided to go for engineering in class VIII.
I want to study Computer Science engineering as it involves Mathematics. Mathematics is my favourite subject so I would like to study a branch that allows me to pursue my passion for it and Computer Science suits this purpose.
Careers360- When did you start your JEE Main preparation? Tell us something about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Main?
Vishwajeet - From class XI onwards I started my preparation for JEE Main. I had no fixed schedule that I followed for my study regime. Mostly I used to study in afternoon and evening.
Careers360- Was there a difference in the preparation strategy in the last months of JEE Main considering that the board exams also are during this period? How did you manage preparation for both?
Vishwajeet - Preparation for both was same as the syllabus was the same. In JEE Main the maximum questions come from NCERT. Even in boards, the maximum questions come from NCERT. I never had to plan anything unique to prepare for both the exams.
Careers360- Did you take coaching for JEE Main and if yes from where? What are the benefits of coaching according to you?
Vishwajeet - I took my coaching from Resonance, Kota. Initially the homework given by the teachers used to bother me but with time everything fell in place. I think coaching is important when you are appearing for such a big exam. I think Mathematics can be prepared by self but for Chemistry one needs help from teachers.
Careers360- Mock tests and sample papers – how extensively did you practise with the help of these? Do you think practising from the previous year papers help and how?
Vishwajeet - I didn't practice any such question papers by myself. I appeared in all the class tests conducted by Resonance which helped me.
Careers360 - Are there any special books that you feel have helped with your JEE Main preparation? Are the school text books adequate for preparing for JEE Main and Class XII?
Vishwajeet- For Physics and Chemistry,NCERT books were enough to appear in JEE Main. Mathematics has some standard books like S.L. Loney, which can be used for reference.
Careers360 - Did you face any problem during the JEE Main examination? Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest in JEE Main? What do you think is a tough thing to manage during the JEE Main exam?
Vishwajeet - I didn't face any problems during my preparation. There were some days when I could not study much so I used to study the next day to compensate the hours.
Careers360 - What do you think are the key factors behind your stupendous success in JEE Main?
Vishwajeet - Two things which helped me through the JEE Main exam were self-confidence and clarity of concepts. By conceptual clarity, I mean the mapping of the concepts in mind should be such that whenever or whatever is asked of you, you should be able to answer it without the slightest of doubts in your mind.
Careers360 - How did you de-stress yourself during the preparation? What are your hobbies? How often could you pursue them?
Vishwajeet - I often visited Brahmakumaris to listen to their teachings. I used to get rejuvenated after visiting them. To freshen up my mood, I used to go out and play cricket with my friends.
Careers360 - Who is your ideal or biggest inspiration in life and why?
Vishwajeet- I don't follow any ideals but I strongly believe in the teachings and values of Brahmakumaris. Their teachings have helped me a lot in many ways.
Careers360 - You know you are an inspiration to thousands of students across the country. Do you have any message for future aspirants on tackling the JEE Main exam?
Vishwajeet - I believe that self-confidence is the first and the foremost thing one should always keep in mind while moving ahead in life. I hold the opinion that one should always work on improving self and never compare oneself with others.
