In the table below, you will find the VITEEE exam pattern. An important point to note about the VITEEE pattern is that, from 2026, negative marking has been included. Each correct answer will award you 4 marks, but each wrong answer will deduct 1 mark from your score. The question distribution per subject is given below:
Subject | Number of Questions (CBT – MCQs) |
Physics | 35 |
Chemistry | 35 |
Mathematics | 40 |
English | 5 |
Aptitude | 10 |

The following table provides a VITEEE chapter-wise weightage based on trends from previous years. This will help the students get the perfect idea of how the previous year's weightage has been and will help them strategize better for the 2026 exam. You can also visit the VITEEE 2026 Syllabus (Note: VITEEE chapter-wise weightage 2026 may vary slightly from year to year, but these chapters in general carry more weight)
The physics section in the VITEEE tests basic concepts along with application-oriented questions. The chapters that often carry higher weightage are as follows:
The Chemistry section demands concept-based understanding and has been segmented into Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry. Here's the weightage for important chapters:
Top areas of focus are: Coordination Chemistry, Electrochemistry and Chemical Kinetics as these are usually some of the scoring areas.
Mathematics holds the highest number of questions in VITEEE. Here’s the chapter-wise weightage for Mathematics:
| Chapter | Weightage (%) |
|---|---|
| Vector Algebra | 11 |
| Matrices and Determinants | 10 |
| Probability | 10 |
| Differential Calculus | 9 |
| Integral Calculus | 8 |
| Complex Numbers | 7 |
| Coordinate Geometry | 7 |
| Trigonometry | 7 |
| Three-Dimensional Geometry | 7 |
| Sequence and Series | 6 |
| Analytical Geometry of Two Dimensions | 6 |
| Applications of Derivatives | 6 |
| Statistics | 6 |
| Total | 100 % |
You can find the basic language skills and logical reasoning in the English and Aptitude section. See below for a general breakdown:
1. English: Reading Comprehension, Grammar, and Vocabulary (5 questions)
2. Aptitude: Data Interpretation, Numerical Reasoning, Spatial Reasoning (5 questions)
3. Areas of Focus: In the case of English, one could focus on vocabulary building and comprehension.
For aptitude, Data Interpretation, and Logical Reasoning will be your prime focus, as these are the only areas tested.
You can follow the table below and kick off your preparation this month. This is carefully curated to help you bag top ranks in VITEEE 2026.
Month | Preparation Focus | Key Activities |
August – September 2025 | Foundation Building | Complete the NCERT syllabus (Class 11 & 12) and clear basic concepts in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Begin light revision of formulas and definitions. |
October – November 2025 | Concept Strengthening | Practice topic-wise problems; start focusing on chapters with higher weightage. Prepare short notes and formula sheets. |
December 2025 | Intensive Practice | Solve previous year papers and take chapter-wise and subject-wise mock tests; analyse weak areas and revise them. |
January 2026 | Full Syllabus Revision | Complete first full revision; focus on high-weightage topics and repeated concepts. Practice mixed question sets. |
February 2026 | Advanced Practice & Mock Tests | Attempt full-length mock tests simulating exam conditions; improve time management; revise important formulas and shortcuts. |
March 2026 (Exam Month) | Final Revision | Quick revision of notes, formula sheets, and previous year's important questions; stay calm and avoid new topics. |
1. Study the Higher Weightage Chapters First: Provide more time to the chapters which have higher weightages so that you do not miss out on areas from which you would score.
2. Time Table Preparation: Divide time to different subjects and give importance to higher weightage chapters and complete those first and build their knowledge base for those particular chapters
3. Regular Practice: Do lots of problems related to Physics and Maths chapters, and daily revisions of chemistry for building the memorizing part. You can also research more about how to Prepare for VITEEE 2026.
4. VITEEE 2026 Mock Test and Previous Papers: Try solving VITEEE mock tests and previous years' question papers to find out what is getting repeated most of the time and where one can manage time.
5. Concentrate on Time Management: Attempt the maximum number of questions from practice papers or the VITEEE 2026 Sample Paper that can be done in the given time frame while maintaining constant time throughout the test.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Knowing chapter-wise weightage will allow you to know in advance which topics have been appearing with a higher probability throughout the years. By targeting these high-weightage chapters, you can optimize your study time and hopefully maximize your marks.
The areas such as Electrostatics and Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism, and Optics tend to carry maximum weightage in Physics. These topics tend to have more questions, hence it is a must that focus is given during preparation.
More time should be given to those chapters that have more weightage in each subject. For example, more time must be given for Coordination Chemistry and Electrochemistry in Chemistry, Vector Algebra and Probability in Mathematics, and Current Electricity and Optics in Physics. In this way, all major topics will get enough time.
Yes, the VITEEE syllabus overlaps largely with JEE Main. However, the questions asked in VITEEE tend to be less tough compared to that of JEE Main. The idea is to go through important chapters present in the JEE syllabus, and also to study topics specific to VITEEE in addition to practicing mock tests especially aimed at VITEEE.
The practice will help in increasing the accuracy and speed. Take many mock tests and refer to the previous years' papers that have occurred. Practice by imposing time constraints and calculate while solving the questions. Focus on those chapters with higher weightage and ensure you are efficient in solving questions so that you can maximize your score.
April 28th- May 03rd, 2026 are the official dates for the exam.
