    How much GATE 2026 Score is required for IITs admissions

    If candidates want to secure admission in top IITs like IIT Bombay IIT Madras, then they have to get a GATE score between 750 to 800. The top IITs allow admission to only GATE candidates who got a GATE rank below 1500. Candidates who get a GATE 2026 rank around 250 may secure a job in Public Sector Units.

    How is the GATE score 2026 calculated?

    The authority calculates the GATE score by using a normalisation formula. The total GATE score is out of 1000. The GATE 2026 score is obtained with the help of raw marks. Below is the normalisation formula to get the GATE score.

    GATE Normalisation formula : GATE score : Sq + (st - sq) / Mt - Mq) X (M - Mq)

    • M = Raw marks

    • Mq refers to the qualifying marks of GATE papers.

    • Mt means the average raw marks of the top GATE candidates.

    • Sq refers to Qualifying Marks

    • St refers to the top marks score

    Difference between GATE Score & Marks

    The authority releases both the GATE score and marks separately. However, GATE score and GATE marks are both completely different. GATE score is scaled from 1 to 1000, while GATE marks are out of 100. The GATE exam pattern consists of 65 questions for 100 marks with a specific marking scheme along with negative marking. The raw marks are also the GATE marks.
