IISER Mohali: Institutional Profile

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Mohali was established in 2007 and has secured the 70th position in the overall NIRF ranking. The campus is spread across 125 acres and has 119 faculty members for a batch size of 1139 students in a five-year UG program. Out of 1139 students, 60.05 per cent are boys and 39.95 per cent are girls. 94.21 per cent of the students are from outside Punjab state, nine international students, and 5.79 per cent of the students are from within Punjab state.

Based on the NIRF overall 2025 data, the intake in a five-year UG course for the 2023-2024 batch was 225 students, and 197 students were admitted. Out of 197 students, 157 graduated. Out of 157 students, 3 were placed, and 115 went for higher studies. This institute is well-known for its strong academics and research ability in the field of science. The majority of students in this institute opt for higher education, which is why the number of students placed is not much higher. The median salary was Rs. 11.4 LPA, reflecting a significant increase over the years. The median salary at IISER Mohali is extremely high for the placed candidates despite a smaller number of placed students.

IISER BS-MS Programme

• Admission in a five-year BS-MS dual degree programme at IISER Mohali is strictly based on the board score and IAT (IISER Aptitude Test) score.

• Candidates who have completed class 12th in the science stream (current year or previous year) are eligible to apply.

BS–MS Courses at IISER Mohali

Candidates have the choice to select the core subject in majors in courses related to Physical, Chemical, Biological, Mathematical, Earth, and Environmental Sciences. Along with selecting the core subject major, candidates also have the option to select another interdisciplinary course as a minor among the listed courses in the table above. Besides BSMS courses, there are various other courses available, including Humanities and Social Sciences, Open Electives.

MODE OF ADMISSION

• To secure a seat in a five-year BSMS dual degree course at IISER Mohali, candidates must appear for IAT (IISER Aptitude Test).

• General, EWS, OBC-NCL category students with at least 60 per cent marks and SC, ST, PwD category students with at least 55 per cent marks in class 12th are eligible to apply.

• The selection process is based on the IAT score through IISER counselling.

• IISET APTITUDE Test is a CBT test.

• The IAT exam date is 7th June 2026.

• The IAT exam timings are 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon (IST).

• The IAT exam centres are all over India.

IISER IAT 2026 – Important Dates

The IAT exam hall ticket for the Mohali campus will be released on 24th May 2026, and the IAT exam date is 7th June 2026. The answer key will be available on the same date of the examination, and the objection window starts from 9th June and closes on 13th June 2026. The document upload window starts from 13th June 2026 and closes on 21st June 2026.

A total of 82,000 candidates registered for the IISER IAT 2025 exam, and only 78,000 candidates actually appeared for the IISER IAT 2025 for 2,363 total seats.

IISER Reservation Policy

IISER has 15 per cent seats reserved for the SC category candidates, 7.50 per cent seats are reserved for ST, 27 per cent seats are reserved for OBC-NCL, up to 10 per cent seats are reserved for EWS, five per cent seats are reserved for PwD within each category, and three seats per IISER institution is reserved for the Kashmiri Migrants or Pandits.
