What Is NTA Score in JEE Main Results - NTA will release the JEE Main 2026 results in the form of NTA score only. The NTA score in JEE Mains result 2026 refers to the percentile score. It is natural to wonder what is NTA score in the JEE Mains result 2026. It is derived based on JEE Main 2026 normalised scores. This process is done to ensure that all candidates have an equal score regardless of the difficulty of the multiple sets of JEE Main 2026 question papers. National Testing Agency will conduct the JEE Main exam for the January session between January 21 to 30, 2026, whereas the April 2026 session will be held between April 1 to 10, 2026. NTA will follow a normalisation formula to calculate the NTA score in JEE Mains 2026. The authority will announce the JEE Main 2026 results on the official website.
A total of 28,705 candidates chose the BTech CSE programme for 4-year BTech admissions, while another 24,123 selected Electrical Engineering, and 21,412 opted for Mechanical Engineering, as per the Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) 2025 report by IIT Kanpur.
The NTA score in the JEE Main result is the aggregate percentile of the candidate in both sessions of the JEE Main exam for all three subjects. The combined scores of both sessions in the JEE Main 2026 exam are converted into a final percentile score, which is called the JEE Main NTA score.
NTA score in the JEE Main exam works to minimise the disparity in scores that may be caused due to differences in the difficulty levels of the multiple sessions of the exam. NTA considers the candidate’s raw score(actual score in the exam) and applies the Normalisation formula to convert it into the NTA score in the JEE Main result.
The authority will apply the NTA score formula for JEE Main to calculate the NTA score in the JEE Main exam for normalisation.
Percentile Score of a Candidate = 100 x (Number of candidates who secured a raw score (or actual score) equal or less than the candidate)/(Total number of candidates who appeared in that session)
The calculation for the Raw scores, the subject-wise and the total NTA score in the JEE Main result are given below.
Raw Scores: Marks obtained in each session and subject (Maths, Physics, Chemistry) of the JEE Main exam calculated for all correct and incorrect answers, totalled up to obtain a total raw JEE Main 2026 score.
JEE Main Percentile Scores for each of the subject and total percentile score
Total Percentile (T1P): | (100 x No. of candidates from the session with a raw score equal to or less than T1 score) / Total No. of candidates who appeared in the session
Mathematics Percentile (M1P) | (100 x No. of candidates appeared from the session with a raw score equal to or less than than M1 score in Mathematics) / Total No. of candidates who appeared in the session
Physics Percentile (P1P) | (100 x No. of candidates appeared from the session with a raw score equal to or less than the P1 score in Physics) / Total No. of candidates who appeared in the session
Chemistry Percentile (C1P): | (100 x No. of candidates appeared from the session with a raw score equal to or less than the C1 score in Chemistry) / Total No. of candidates who appeared in the session
There are several advantages to the NTA score in the JEE Main 2026 result
Equal and Unbiased Result: NTA conducts the JEE Main 2026 exam in multiple sessions across different days. Each session of the JEE Main exam will have separate question papers with varying degrees of difficulty. Hence, the authority implements the JEE Main normalisation procedure to give all the JEE Main 2026 candidates a fair and equal chance in the exam. The NTA score in the JEE Mains result 2026 ensures that the scores of all the candidates are at the same level to keep the JEE Main 2026 results fair.
Easier to break ties: The NTA score in the JEE Main result helps the authority break ties in the raw score more easily. The guidelines for the JEE Main 2026 tie-breaking are
When two or more candidates obtain equal percentile, then the ranking will be as follows
NTA score in Mathematics, followed by
NTA score in Physics, followed by
NTA score in Chemistry, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Mathematics in the Test, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics in the Test, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry in the Test followed by
If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank.
The tie between candidates obtaining the same Total NTA scores will be resolved in the following manner:
NTA score in Mathematics, followed by
NTA score in Aptitude Test, followed by
NTA score in Drawing Test, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Mathematics (Part-I) in the Test, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Aptitude Test (Part-II) in the Test followed by
If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank

In case two candidates obtain the same marks in the JEE Main 2026 B.Planning exam the tie-breaking will apply in the following order:
NTA score in Mathematics, followed by
NTA score in Aptitude Test, followed by
NTA score in Planning Based Questions, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Mathematics (Part- I) in the Test, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Aptitude Test (Part- II) in the Test, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Planning Based Questions (Part-III) in the Test followed by
If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank.
NTA score will be used for admission: All of the institutions that accept JEE Main scores will offer admission to the candidates based only on their JEE Main 2026 NTA score.
