What is NTA score?

The NTA score in the JEE Main result is the aggregate percentile of the candidate in both sessions of the JEE Main exam for all three subjects. The combined scores of both sessions in the JEE Main 2026 exam are converted into a final percentile score, which is called the JEE Main NTA score.

How NTA score works in JEE Main 2026

NTA score in the JEE Main exam works to minimise the disparity in scores that may be caused due to differences in the difficulty levels of the multiple sessions of the exam. NTA considers the candidate’s raw score(actual score in the exam) and applies the Normalisation formula to convert it into the NTA score in the JEE Main result.

How to calculate NTA score

The authority will apply the NTA score formula for JEE Main to calculate the NTA score in the JEE Main exam for normalisation.

Percentile Score of a Candidate = 100 x (Number of candidates who secured a raw score (or actual score) equal or less than the candidate)/(Total number of candidates who appeared in that session)

The calculation for the Raw scores, the subject-wise and the total NTA score in the JEE Main result are given below.

Raw Scores: Marks obtained in each session and subject (Maths, Physics, Chemistry) of the JEE Main exam calculated for all correct and incorrect answers, totalled up to obtain a total raw JEE Main 2026 score.

JEE Main Percentile Scores for each of the subject and total percentile score

Total Percentile (T1P):

(100 x No. of candidates from the session with a raw score equal to or less than T1 score) / Total No. of candidates who appeared in the session

Mathematics Percentile (M1P)

(100 x No. of candidates appeared from the session with a raw score equal to or less than than M1 score in Mathematics)

/ Total No. of candidates who appeared in the session

Physics Percentile (P1P)

(100 x No. of candidates appeared from the session with a raw score equal to or less than the P1 score in Physics) / Total No. of candidates who appeared in the session

Chemistry Percentile (C1P):

(100 x No. of candidates appeared from the session with a raw score equal to or less than the C1 score in Chemistry) / Total No. of candidates who appeared in the session

Importance of NTA score in JEE Main

There are several advantages to the NTA score in the JEE Main 2026 result

  • Equal and Unbiased Result: NTA conducts the JEE Main 2026 exam in multiple sessions across different days. Each session of the JEE Main exam will have separate question papers with varying degrees of difficulty. Hence, the authority implements the JEE Main normalisation procedure to give all the JEE Main 2026 candidates a fair and equal chance in the exam. The NTA score in the JEE Mains result 2026 ensures that the scores of all the candidates are at the same level to keep the JEE Main 2026 results fair.

  • Easier to break ties: The NTA score in the JEE Main result helps the authority break ties in the raw score more easily. The guidelines for the JEE Main 2026 tie-breaking are

Amrita University B.Tech 2026

Recognized as Institute of Eminence by Govt. of India | NAAC ‘A++’ Grade | Upto 75% Scholarships

UPES B.Tech Admissions 2026

When two or more candidates obtain equal percentile, then the ranking will be as follows

  • NTA score in Mathematics, followed by

  • NTA score in Physics, followed by

  • NTA score in Chemistry, followed by

  • Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test, followed by

  • Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Mathematics in the Test, followed by

  • Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics in the Test, followed by

  • Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry in the Test followed by

  • If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank.

Have a question related to JEE Main ?

Hi,

For admission in the CBIT, JNTUH, or VNR VJET AIML branch, you will need to score around 96-68% in JEE Mains with your EWS category and BCE certificate. For CBIT and VNR VJET, cutoff goes to around 97-98% while in JNTUH, you might need slightly higher marks, around 98-99%.

Hope it helps!!!

For JEE Main 2026, calculators will not be allowed in the exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has confirmed that no physical or virtual calculator will be provided. Earlier, there was confusion because of a typing mistake in the information bulletin, but NTA has now clearly said that students have to do all the calculations manually during the exam.

The calculator ban in JEE Main 2026 will test aspirants’ mental arithmetic and manual calculation skills, making speed and accuracy entirely dependent on practice. Regular solving of numerical problems without a calculator will be key to maintaining efficiency during the exam.  For more information, go through this article https://engineering.careers360.com/articles/how-virtual-calculator-impacts-the-preparation-of-jee-mains
