Careers360: Congratulations on your performance in the JEE Main January 2025 exam! What was your reaction upon knowing your score?

Chirag Singh: I am really happy and satisfied with my performance. Everyone in my family is very happy.

Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. Which board have you studied under? Which school have you studied in?

Chirag Singh: I am in my class 12th right now. I have studied in CBSE Board only at Lucknow Public School.

Careers360: When did you decide to study engineering? Which branch would you be interested in? Any reason?

Chirag Singh: Right after class 10th when we had to choose our streams, I decided I wanted to study PCM subjects for engineering. I am interested in pursuing CS branch. My top preference is IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi.

Careers360: Did you take coaching for JEE Main and if yes from where? What are the benefits of coaching according to you?

Chirag Singh: Yes, I am a Allen Online student. The faculty at Allen helped me a lot for the JEE Mains exam. Also, the institute provided me a lot of resources like mock tests, notes and other practice questions.

Careers360: Tell us about your exam day. What was your exam date and shift? What was your question paper like? Did you have to face any technical glitches in your online exam?

Chirag Singh: So I took the exam on January 22 shift 1. The mathematics section was easy. Physics subject was overall easy but did have a few tricky questions. The chemistry part has a few difficult questions. No, I did not face any technical issues in the JEE Main exam.

Careers360: Tell us something about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Main.

Chirag Singh: I did study for 7-8 hours regularly. However, my preparation strategy was not limited to any particular number of hours and work towards completing it. I would keep studying until I met the set target so my study hours would extend many times.

Careers360: What are some of the challenges you faced while preparing for JEE Mains?

Chirag Singh: Yes so there was one particular challenge that I faced during my JEE preparation. It was difficult to manage both school and JEE Mains preparation. I would then take my coaching homework to school and finish it during any free periods I would get.

Careers360: Did you face any difficulties since the examination was conducted completely in computer-based mode?

Chirag Singh: No. I practised multiple mock tests to get used to the format of the exam. So I did not face any issues.

Careers360: How did you de-stress yourself during the preparation? What are your hobbies? How often could you pursue them?

Chirag Singh: If I was stressed I would turn to talking to my friends. The best de-stressing activity for me is cycling.

Careers360: What was your parent's contribution during your JEE Mains exam preparation like?

Chirag Singh: My parents greatly contributed to my JEE Mains preparation. They ensured I had a healthy diet throughout and stayed healthy without having to miss out on any preparation days. They also ensured I remained disciplined.

Careers360: Mock tests and sample papers – how extensively did you practise with the help of these? Do you think practising from the previous year’s papers helps and how?

Chirag Singh: Yes I took more than 100 mock tests throughout my exam preparation. In the last month of my JEE preparation alone, I gave about 25-30 mock tests. My coaching also had regular tests series that I took.

Careers360: You know you are an inspiration to thousands of students across the country. Do you have any message for future aspirants on tackling the JEE Main exam?

Chirag Singh: I would say listen to your teachers and believe in yourself. All those who want to ace this exam should understand the reason why they want to appear in it and clear it. If you do that then you can figure out how.

Careers360: Will you be appearing for the April session of JEE Main 2025 too?

Chirag Singh: Yes, I will be appearing in the JEE Main 2025 session 2 exam also.

Heya,

Yes, you can refill your category again. In the case of the April session JEE Main registration, you have the option to change your category while registering your details only once. You can switch from General to EWS if you have a proper certificate. Just be certain that the EWS certificate is granted before the last date of the April session form and complies with the NTA's requirements of validity.

Hope it helps!!!

Hello,

Yes, you can get admission in DTU and IIIT Hyderabad with an outstanding JEE Main rank, as long as you pass Class 12 with at least 60% marks in PCM.

if we talk about DTU (Delhi Technological University) — you must have at least 60% in PCM and pass all subjects. The 75% rule is not strictly applicable here, so you can get admission based on your JEE Main rank and Delhi quota, if applicable.

For IIIT Hyderabad, admission is based on JEE Main percentile/rank, but the institute also requires a minimum of 60% in Class 12 (PCM). So, even with less than 75%, you are eligible if you meet this 60% requirement.

Hope you understand. ALL THE BEST.

Hello Tanishka,

Although i believe your attempting strategy and sequence depends entirely on your stage of preparation and your personal progress, i would suggest you sit for your January attempt even if you aim to seriously prepare for April.

Whatever stage of syllabus completion you are at, i suggest you give it a try to get an estimate of the exam difficulty and see roughly where you stand among the applicants that year. No matter how many mock tests you attempt, the actual examination environment happens to be very different from mock tests. The first attempt is going to give you an idea of the exam environment so you can prepare for your April attempt better.

All the best for your exams!

Hello Swati

Yes, your EWS certificate will be valid for JEE Main 2026 and counselling if it’s issued after April 1, 2025.
This is because EWS certificates are valid for one financial year from April to March.
So, a certificate made in October 2025 will be for FY 2025–26, which covers both JEE and counselling. You’ll need the certificate number during JEE registration in October 2025.
Even if you don’t have it yet, you can still register and upload it later during counselling. Just make sure the certificate clearly mentions the correct financial year.
Always keep a few extra copies and the original ready for verification.
You're good to go if it’s issued after April 1, 2025
