"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do,” said the legendary footballer Pele. This axiom proves true in case of Anany Sharma, who grabbed All India Rank 10 in JEE Main 2017. The topper from Indore believes that focus on his target and studies brought him success in the national level engineering entrance test. According to him, not long hours but complete focus and quality study help you crack the test. Careers360 spoke to Anany on various aspects of preparation, strategy, time management and much more. Read through the complete interview below.

Excerpts from the interview:

Careers360: Congratulations for your outstanding performance in JEE Main 2017! What was your reaction upon knowing your rank?

Anany: I was quite happy with the result. Though a day before I was not really sure of my rank, however, as I appeared in the exam, I was certain of securing a rank in the top 10.

Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. Which board have you studied under? Which school have you studied in?

Anany: I studied under CBSE Board and I studied at Shishukunj International School, Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

Careers360: What is your score in JEE Main 2017? What is your all India rank and category rank?

Anany: I scored 340 in JEE Main 2017 and my AII India Rank is 10 and category-rank is also 10.

Careers360: Did you appear for the offline JEE Main exam or the online one? What is the reason behind this choice of yours?

Anany: I appeared in JEE Main 2017 online mode. My optional subject in class XII is Psychology and last year the offline exam for JEE Main was just a day after my Psychology paper. Coming from that background, I wanted to avoid such situation this year, however, nothing of that sort happened. But this was the reason that I opted for the online exam and not the offline one.

Careers360: Why do you want to study engineering? When did you decided to study engineering? Which branch would you be interested in? Any reason?

Anany: I want to study Engineering because of my love for Mathematics and Physics. For the sake of the love for the subjects, I want to pursue Engineering. Moreover, it was also my childhood dream to pursue Engineering.

I would go Computer Science at IIT Bombay, as I want to start my own app development company.

Careers360: When did you start your JEE Main preparation? Tell us something about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Main?

Anany: I have been preparing for JEE Main for the last two year. I would utilize every spare minute for my studies and would study for 6-8 hours every day. On holidays, I would study from 9 am to 5 pm. In my understanding, focus on your studies is quite important.

Careers360: Was there a difference in the preparation strategy in the last months of JEE Main considering that the board exams also are during this period? How did you manage preparation for both?

Anany: I think what is required most to manage both the things is focus. Whatever you are doing at present, you must do it with complete heart and focus. Though I had prepared for boards also, but my complete focus was on JEE Main 2017. Before my board exams, I would study for JEE Main. I only revised and prepared for my class XII exams during the gaps I would get in between my board papers.

Careers360: Did you take coaching for JEE Main and if yes from where? What are the benefits of coaching according to you?

Anany: For almost 5 years, I took coaching from FIITJEE, however, this year I had shifted to Allen. Coaching helps you learn how to tackle new problems and doubt solving. You are constantly guided by the faculty whenever and wherever you feel stuck.

Careers360: How extensively did you practise Mock tests and sample papers? Do you think practising from the previous year papers help and how?

Anany: I didn’t take any mock test or practised any sample paper. I only studied the preparation books or study material given to me by the coaching institutes.

Careers360: Are there any special books that you feel have helped with your JEE Main preparation? Are the school text books adequate for preparing for JEE Main and Class XII?

Anany: I can only suggest NCERT books. If one studies from NCERT books, he/she can perform better in JEE Main.

Careers360: Did you face any problem during the JEE Main examination?  Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest in JEE Main? What do you think is a tough thing to manage during the JEE Main exam?

Anany: I didn’t face any problem in the exam. For me, Physics was the easiest and Mathematics toughest.  Mathematics was toughest because the questions were too lengthy. In the exam if someone can manage time well, it’s very good, as for me time management was the biggest challenge.

Careers360: What do you think are the key factors behind your stupendous success in JEE Main?

Anany: In my success, the biggest contributor is my focus on my target and studies.

Careers360: How did you de-stress yourself during the preparation? What are your hobbies? How often could you pursue them?

Anany: I would de-stress myself by playing Cricket and Football. I love to dance, though I did get ample opportunities to pursue this hobby of mine in the last couple of year, however, not during the

Careers360: You know you are an inspiration to thousands of students across the country. Do you have any message for future aspirants on tackling the JEE Main exam?

Anany: To succeed, focus is the most important factor. Also, I want advice the future JEE aspirants not to ignore or put on back-burner NCERT books. In my view, NCERT books are very important for JEE Main preparation.

prem meghani 7th Dec, 2019

Dear Aspirant,

The syllabus of both Jee and neet is based on class 11 and 12 th so the syllabus is comparatively same of both but the difference is in level of questions and pattern of questions. Neet have more questions as compared to Jee which need high accuracy to clear cutoff . whereas Jee has less questions but the level of jee question is somewhat high and it needs lot of practice to crack the particular problem.
