Vibhanshu Chaudhary, Lead Consultant at ITC Infotech, who completed BTech in Computer Science & Engineering from NIET Greater Noida in 2016, talks about student life at college. He shares his experience with Careers360 on higher education, curriculum support, case studies, projects, internships, academic learning, relevant skills, workshops and many more.

Careers360: Introduce yourself and tell us why NIET Greater Noida was your choice for higher education.

Vibhanshu Chaudhary: Hello everyone! My name is Vibhanshu Chaudhary. I completed my BTech in Computer Science & Engineering from NIET Greater Noida in 2016. Currently, I am working as a Lead Consultant at ITC Infotech and have around nine years of experience in the IT industry. Before this, I worked with organisations such as NTT DATA, TELUS, and Optum.

Choosing NIET was a well-informed decision. The institute had a strong placement record, experienced faculty, and a convenient location. My elder sister had also graduated from NIET in 2014 and shared positive experiences about the institution, which further strengthened my confidence in choosing NIET.

Careers360: To what extent did the curriculum support the development of industry-relevant skills alongside academic learning?

Vibhanshu Chaudhary: The curriculum provided a solid academic foundation while encouraging practical learning through projects, seminars, presentations, and technical activities. It helped us understand core computer science concepts, but I believe the real value came from applying those concepts through projects and community initiatives. Those experiences significantly improved my analytical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, which continue to help me in my professional career.

Careers360: How would you describe campus life at NIET Greater Noida, and which experience had the most significant impact during your time there?

Vibhanshu Chaudhary: My campus life was a perfect blend of learning, leadership, and personal growth. Although I was a day scholar and spent most of my initial years focusing on academics, my final two years completely transformed my institute experience.

One of the most memorable milestones was founding the NIET Firefox Club and leading the Mozilla community across the NCR region as a Mozilla Representative and Regional Ambassador Leader. Organising technical sessions, workshops, and community events not only enhanced my technical knowledge but also helped me develop leadership, communication, and event management skills. Those experiences shaped me into a more confident individual.

Careers360: How would you describe the approachability and supportiveness of the faculty during your time on campus?

Vibhanshu Chaudhary: The faculty members were highly approachable and always willing to support students beyond classroom teaching. I would especially like to thank Dr. C. S. Yadav, our former Head of the CSE Department, who taught us Operating Systems. His mentorship extended beyond academics, and I still share a wonderful relationship with him today. I would also like to acknowledge Dr. Sandeep Gupta for his continuous guidance and encouragement. Their mentorship played an important role in my professional journey.

Careers360: How impactful were case studies, projects, and internships in your overall learning journey?

Vibhanshu Chaudhary: Projects and practical assignments were extremely valuable because they allowed us to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios. They strengthened my technical foundation and taught me how to work collaboratively in teams. Looking back, these experiences prepared me well for industry expectations and helped me transition smoothly into my professional career.

Careers360: Did you have opportunities to connect or interact with alumni while pursuing your studies?

Vibhanshu Chaudhary: Yes. I interacted with seniors and alumni on multiple occasions and also attended an alumni meet after graduation. Such interactions gave valuable insights into industry expectations, career planning, and placement preparation.

Careers360: Do you have experience with mentoring, and would you be open to guiding NIET students ahead?

Vibhanshu Chaudhary: Absolutely. Throughout my professional journey, I have mentored colleagues and junior professionals, and I would be more than happy to mentor NIET students as well. Whether it’s career guidance, placement preparation, interview strategies, resume reviews, or understanding current industry trends, I would always be glad to contribute to my alma mater.

Careers360: How much of your current professional success would you credit to NIET Greater Noida?

Vibhanshu Chaudhary: A significant part of my professional journey began at NIET. The strong academic foundation, supportive faculty, technical exposure, placement training, and leadership opportunities provided by the institution helped me build the confidence and skills required in the corporate world. While continuous learning has been essential throughout my career, NIET laid the foundation on which I have built my professional growth.

Careers360: Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently during your time at NIET?

Vibhanshu Chaudhary: Yes. If I had the opportunity to relive my college days, I would focus even more on mastering a programming language from the beginning and improving my communication skills. I would also participate in more coding competitions, hackathons, and extracurricular activities from my first year itself. While I became actively involved during my final years, I believe starting earlier would have accelerated my overall development.

Careers360: Is there anything you would like to share with students considering joining NIET Greater Noida?

Vibhanshu Chaudhary: The IT industry is evolving rapidly, and the skills expected today are very different from what they were a few years ago. My advice to students is not to chase random certifications or internships just to build a resume. Instead, focus on developing strong fundamentals, logical thinking, problem-solving ability, communication skills, and practical technical expertise. Participate in hackathons, technical communities, and institute events, build meaningful projects, network with peers and alumni, and most importantly, enjoy your college journey because these years shape both your career and your personality.
