In this interview, Vedansh Rathore, who is a BTech ECE in his third year from SRM University AP, is talking about his campus life journey with Careers360. Read the article below to know more about the SRM University AP, Amaravati campus, from a student perspective.

Careers360: Please introduce yourself and explain the key factors that influenced your decision to choose SRM A.P as your first preference.

Vedansh Rathore: I’m Vedansh Rathore, a third-year undergraduate ECE student at SRM University AP.

I chose SRM AP as my first preference because of its modern infrastructure and its strong focus on research, innovation, and practical learning through advanced labs. What stood out to me was the vision of the university as a growing campus with long-term potential.

When I first joined, the campus was relatively small, but over the years I have seen continuous development. The growth in facilities, academic resources, and overall environment reflects the university’s commitment to building something bigger, and that has reinforced my belief that I made the right choice.

Careers360: What was the first thing that stood out to you about campus life at the institute, and what would you say are the campus’s key USPs?

Vedansh Rathore: The first thing that stood out to me about campus life was the diversity of cultures. While there is a slight more influence of Telugu culture, the campus creates an environment where students from different backgrounds feel represented.

One of the key USPs of the campus is that it never misses an opportunity to celebrate festivals from various cultures, which really strengthens the sense of community and belonging.

Another major USP, in my opinion, is the strong focus on growth and innovation through centres of excellence, well-equipped research labs, availability of seed grants, and support for participating in competitions. These opportunities encourage students to go beyond academics and actively build, experiment, and compete.

Careers360: Could you highlight a few experiences from your journey so far that have been especially memorable?

Vedansh Rathore: I’ve made so many memorable experiences here that I’ll carry with me for life.

In my first year, getting introduced to drones and actually building and experimenting with them was a turning point—it sparked my interest in hands-on technical work. Being a part of the Student Council has also been a major highlight, where organising events and working behind the scenes taught me a lot about teamwork, responsibility, and execution.

One of the most special memories for me was my Everest Base Camp trek, which was partially sponsored by the university. It was not just an adventure but a life-changing experience that pushed my limits and gave me a completely new perspective.

Apart from this, participating in workshops, technical events, and competitions, along with everyday campus life with friends, has made my journey here truly unforgettable.

Careers360: Do you feel comfortable approaching faculty members for guidance and support?

Vedansh Rathore: I’ve approached faculty multiple times for help, whether it was for projects, technical doubts, or even for seeking help for internships, and the response has always been positive. That comfort comes from experience, not just perception. So yes, faculty members here are approachable.

Careers360: Can you tell us about your involvement in student clubs, societies, or other extracurricular activities and how they contributed to your overall experience?

Vedansh Rathore: I’ve been actively involved in AVBR, the robotics club, the Centre for Drone Technology, which comes under the Centre of Excellence, and the Student Council throughout my time here. Each of these experiences has contributed to my growth in different ways.

Being part of AVBR and the drone centre helped me strengthen my technical skills through hands-on projects, problem-solving, and real-world applications. At the same time, my involvement in the Student Council gave me exposure to planning and executing events, handling responsibilities, and working with teams under pressure.

Overall, these experiences have helped me develop a balance between technical expertise and management skills, shaping me into a more well-rounded individual.

Careers360: Are events such as cultural festivals, sports meets, and social activities organised regularly at the University? If so, did you participate, and how would you describe your experience?

Vedansh Rathore: Yes, events are organised very regularly, so much so that at times you actually have to choose between attending them and focusing on academics.

The campus does have a noticeable Telugu cultural influence, but at the same time, there’s space for everyone, and different cultures are represented through various events and celebrations.

Personally, I’ve been involved in Infinitus, the university’s national-level techno-cultural fest, since my first year as both an organising member and a participant. Being on both sides gave me a complete experience, from managing events behind the scenes to actually taking part in them. It’s been one of the most exciting and memorable parts of my campus life.

Careers360: Do you feel that the available classroom resources—including technology, library materials, and lab facilities are sufficient for your learning needs?

Vedansh Rathore: Yes, I feel the available resources are quite sufficient for my learning needs. The classrooms are well-equipped. The library also has a decent collection of resources, both physical and digital, which are helpful for academics and projects. While there’s always room for expansion as the university grows, overall, the facilities support learning effectively.

Careers360: How would you describe your interactions with the institute’s alumni, and how did they contribute to your academic or professional journey?

Vedansh Rathore: Our department actively organises alumni interactive sessions where alumni share their experiences, insights, and career guidance. What stands out is that the interaction isn’t just limited to talks; if someone is genuinely interested, especially in areas like startups, alumni are often open to offering opportunities such as internships or collaborations.

Careers360: What impact do you believe campus life has on a student’s academic progress and personal growth?

Vedansh Rathore: Campus life has a strong impact on both academics and personal growth. You end up learning a lot outside the classroom through friends, seniors, and everyday experiences. Being involved in activities also teaches you time management and how to balance multiple things at once.

Hostel life plays a big and memorable role in these late-night talks, group studies, and living with people from different backgrounds really shape your personality. It makes you more independent and adaptable. Overall, campus life adds a lot more value to your journey than just academics.

Careers360: How would you rate your academic infrastructure? Would you suggest any changes?

Vedansh Rathore: I would rate the academic infrastructure as quite good. The campus is modern, with well-equipped classrooms and labs that support practical learning. Since it’s still developing, I’m optimistic about the improvements coming in the future.

One area that could be improved for the hostellers is the mess infrastructure; adding a live kitchen would enhance the experience. Overall, the infrastructure is strong and moving in the right direction.

Careers360: Would you suggest SRM A.P to friends and family, and why?

Vedansh Rathore: Yes, I would definitely recommend SRM AP to friends and family. It offers a quite good balance of academics, practical exposure, and overall campus life. Also, the campus is ragging-free, which creates a safe and comfortable environment. There are a few restrictions, like night timings, but they are mainly for students’ safety and well-being.

It’s a growing campus with modern infrastructure and increasing opportunities. There are strong platforms for research, startup incubation, and grants, which help you go beyond academics. Also, being located in Amaravati, known as the “Quantum Valley” of Andhra Pradesh, adds to its potential as a good career choice.

Overall, if someone is proactive, whether they are interested in research, startups, or technical growth, SRM AP is definitely a good choice.
