    IITs

    BITS

    Campus:

This is a government-funded university with a total of 23 campuses across the country. It is one of the oldest educational institutions in the country & was established in the year 1951.

This is a private institution that only has 5 campuses in total, out of which 4 are in India & one is in Dubai, UAE.

BITS was established more recently in the year 2008 & follows a more relaxed form of teaching and curriculum.

    Admission:

    • Admission into IITs is much more rigorous when compared to other entrance exams. It requires a very high understanding and grasp of fundamental concepts.
    • Admissions to IITs are done through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), which tests the student's knowledge of physics, chemistry, and mathematics. This is conducted in 2 stages: a)JEE Main and b) JEE Advanced

    • Admission into BITS is considerably easier when compared to the IITs, as it is a single-stage test. However, it is still much more difficult when compared to entrance exams across the country.
    • The admission test is a single-stage test called BITSAT (Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test), which tests Logical reasoning apart from Physics, chemistry, mathematics, and English

    Exam pattern:

    • JEE mains: MCQs: +4 for the correct answer and -1 for the wrong answer.
    • Numerical value answers: +4 for correct answer and -1 for wrong answer.
    • JEE Advanced: Sec1 & 3: no negative points
    • Sec 2: full (or) partial marks based on the number of correct options -2 for wrong answer
    • BITSAT: 3 marks for right answer -1 for the wrong answer

    Course Focus:

Along with Undergraduate courses, there is also a strong focus on postgraduate courses & government-funded research opportunities.

Focus is higher on undergraduate courses, especially Btech courses.

    System of study:

Because the IITs have been established earlier, their curriculum and the pattern of study are more traditional. The courses IITs offer place more focus on research and the concepts of study required for a more technical study.

Their system of study is more holistic. They emphasise a more well-rounded growth of the student, BITS also boasts of a zero-attendance policy. where they require no minimum attendance to be able to attend exams.

    IIT Fee structure:

As they are government-funded institutes, fees are lower ranging from 2-3 lakhs

    BIT Fee structure:

The fee range is higher i.e 4 to 5 lakhs per annum as it is a private institute

While both IITs and BITS have a very similar curriculum and mode of study, the final decision of the candidate concerning the question IITS vs BITS should be based on careful evaluation of the syllabus and study pattern of the respective institutes.
