In addition to the thirteen (13) colleges admitting students through JCECE offering 4820 seats, there are renowned institutes where students prefer to study. These are as follows: ISM Dhanbad (767 seats); BIT Mesra (648 seats); NIT Jamshedpur (530 seats); and NIFFT Ranchi (139 seats).
The Indian School of Mines is one of the oldest institutions in the country and was inaugurated on 9th December, 1926. Birla Institute of Technology and ISM, Dhanbad consistently figure in the top engineering colleges in India. National Institute of Foundry & Forge Technology offers students a B.Tech degree course in Manufacturing Engineering and in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering. The top disciplines in all engineering institutes in the state are Mechanical Engineering (1281 seats); Computer Science (1235), Electronics and Communications (1094), Electrical & Electronics (823) and Civil Engineering (837) which together account for 71% of seats in state. Three other disciplines have a fair share of intake: Mining, Production, and Metallurgy and Material Science Engineering. There are three upcoming government institutes in the state: Government College of Engineering at Dumka, Chaibasa and Ramgarh
Students can gain admission to the UG courses at Engineering Colleges in Jharkhand through either of the following routes:
State CET (JCECE) conducted by Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Exam Board.
AIEEE: One needs to appear in AIEEE for the seats in NIT, Jamshedpur; BIT, Mesra and National Institute of Foundry & Forge Technology, Ranchi
Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) conducted by IIT for admission to the Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad
For CET, the candidates must have passed their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board with the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English. There is no age limit for the candidates.
The minimum academic qualification for admission through AIEEE is a pass in final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination. Those appearing in 10+2 (Class XII) final or equivalent examination may also appear in AIEEE for consideration of provisional admission in any of the given colleges.
