Candidates applying for the JEE Main 2026 exam must be aware of the admission requirements. To be eligible to apply for the JEE Main exam, candidates need to meet all the prescribed requirements. The JEE Main 2026 registration for session 2 is being held from February 1 to 25, 2026. Session 2 JEE Main 2026 exam will be held from April 2 to 9, 2026.     JEE Main Admission Requirements 2026 - Eligibility Criteria

    NTA has published the JEE Main 2026 eligibility criteria on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. The eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2026 are the basic criteria that candidates must fulfil for the JEE Main 2026 exam. These criteria ensure that only qualified students who meet academic and examination standards are allowed to participate in the JEE Main exam.

    Educational Qualification

    Must have passed Class 12 or equivalent exam from a recognised board.

    Year of Passing Class 12

    Candidates who passed the qualifying exam in 2024 or 2025, or are appearing in 2026, are eligible to apply for the JEE Main exam.

    Minimum Marks in Class 12

    No minimum marks are required to appear for the exam. For NIT/IIIT/GFTI admissions: 75% (General/OBC/EWS) or 65% (SC/ST) OR top 20 percentile of the board.

    Mandatory Subjects for B.E./B.Tech

    Physics + Mathematics + one of Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational subject.

    Mandatory Subjects for B.Arch

    Mathematics mandatory; 50% in PCM required (subject to official confirmation).

    Mandatory Subjects for B.Plan

    Mathematics is compulsory in Class 12.

    Age Limit for JEE Main 2026

    NTA does not mention a maximum age limit for candidates while applying for the JEE Main exam. However, the institutes that accept admission through JEE Main may have age criteria during admissions. Therefore, candidates should check the institute-specific guidelines once they qualify.

    Educational Qualification for JEE Main 2026

    Candidates attempting the exam must meet the basic educational qualification for JEE Main 2026. Candidates who do not meet the JEE Main 2026 educational qualifications will not be allowed admission. Candidates must have

    • Passed Class 12 or any equivalent exam from a recognized board.

    • The qualifying exam must include Physics and Mathematics, along with one optional subject such as Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or Technical Vocational subjects for B.E./B.Tech aspirants.

    JEE Main Admission Requirements 2026 - Year of Passing Class 12

    Candidates who passed in 2024 or 2025, or are appearing in 2026, are eligible to apply for the JEE Main 2026 exam. Candidates who have completed their class 12 before 2024 are not eligible.

    JEE Main Admission Requirements 2026 -Minimum Marks Required

    To appear for the JEE Main 2026 exam, NTA does not specify a minimum percentage. Even students who have scored low marks in Class 12 will be eligible to apply for the JEE Main exam.

    However, for admissions to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, candidates must satisfy the minimum 75% marks requirement in Class 12, or be in the top 20th percentile of their board, as per the Ministry of Education rule. For SC and ST students, the minimum required percentage is 65%. The minimum percentage rule applies during the counselling and admission process. This is not required for the exam registration.
