JEE Main Admission Requirements 2026 - NTA has released details about the JEE Main admission requirements 2026 on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. Candidates applying for the JEE Main 2026 exam must be aware of the admission requirements. To be eligible to apply for the JEE Main exam, candidates need to meet all the prescribed requirements. The JEE Main 2026 registration for session 2 is being held from February 1 to 25, 2026. Session 2 JEE Main 2026 exam will be held from April 2 to 9, 2026. Failure to meet the JEE Main admission requirements 2026 will result in the candidate’s admission being cancelled. NTA does not mention a maximum age limit for candidates while applying for the JEE Main exam. However, the institutes that accept admission through JEE Main may have age criteria during admissions. Therefore, candidates should check the institute-specific guidelines once they qualify.
Candidates attempting the exam must meet the basic educational qualification for JEE Main 2026. Candidates who do not meet the JEE Main 2026 educational qualifications will not be allowed admission. Candidates must have
Passed Class 12 or any equivalent exam from a recognized board.
The qualifying exam must include Physics and Mathematics, along with one optional subject such as Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or Technical Vocational subjects for B.E./B.Tech aspirants.
Candidates applying for admission to B.Arch or B.Plan, need Mathematics to be compulsory for both programmes.
Candidates who passed in 2024 or 2025, or are appearing in 2026, are eligible to apply for the JEE Main 2026 exam. Candidates who have completed their class 12 before 2024 are not eligible.
To appear for the JEE Main 2026 exam, NTA does not specify a minimum percentage. Even students who have scored low marks in Class 12 will be eligible to apply for the JEE Main exam.
However, for admissions to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, candidates must satisfy the minimum 75% marks requirement in Class 12, or be in the top 20th percentile of their board, as per the Ministry of Education rule. For SC and ST students, the minimum required percentage is 65%. The minimum percentage rule applies during the counselling and admission process. This is not required for the exam registration.
