Q - What is JoSAA 2023? Who conducts it?
A - The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) is constituted by MHRD to conduct common counselling procedure for allocation of seats on the basis of JEE Main and JEE Advanced ranks. The seats allocated through JoSAA counselling 2023 will be at IITs, NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs.
All the JEE Main and JEE Advanced qualified candidates will be eligible to register for JoSAA 2023.
Q - Is JoSAA 2023 liable to prepare/announce JEE (Main) 2023 ranks?
A - No, JoSAA is not responsible for preparing or announcing JEE Main 2023 ranks. They are prepared by NTA.
Q - Is there a possibility of having my name in one or more JoSAA rank lists?
A - Yes, it is very much possible to appear in more than one JoSAA rank list in 2023. It depends on your category and physical disability status. It exists along with your performance in the entrance exam, there are chances that you may appear in more than one JoSAA rank list and a maximum of four rank lists in each of JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams.
Q - What if my class XII scores change upon revaluation and declaration of JEE Main 2023 ranks. Will it affect my rank and seat allocation?
A - No, there will be no change as JEE Main ranks are not dependent on class XII scores.
Q - What are the various seat quotas of institutes to be considered under JoSAA 2023?
A - JoSAA 2023 will have the following seat quotas:
All India Quota: Candidates across the country will be eligible for this seat quota
Home State Quota: Candidates who will have their state code of eligibility same as the state/ union territory in which the Institute is located will be eligible for this seat quota
Other State Quota: Candidates whose state of eligibility is NOT same as the state/ union territory in which the Institute is located will be considered under this seat quota.
Q - What is the meaning of CSAB?
Ans. An agency constituted by MHRD, CSAB or Central Seat Allocation Board will allow admission to various undergraduate programmes as offered by NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. These institutes are collectively referred to as NIT+ Institutes.
Q. I have qualified in JEE Advanced 2023/JEE Main 2023. Is it mandatory to register in JoSAA to get a seat in IITs, NITs, IIITs (Triple-I-Ts) and Other-GFTIs?
Ans. Yes. JoSAA 2023 registration and choice filling process is mandatory for any qualified candidate interested in joining any of the IITs, NITs, IIITs (Triple-I-Ts) and Other-GFTIs (within the purview of JoSAA).
Q. Can JoSAA prepare/announce JEE Main 2023 ranks?
A. No. JEE Main 2023 ranks are provided by the JEE Apex Board. JoSAA 2023 uses these ranks as such without any further change.
FAQs on JoSAA 2023 Eligibility Criteria
Q - Will PIO/ OCI cardholders eligible for getting admission through JoSAA?
A - Yes, PIO/ OCI cardholders will be eligible for getting admission into NITs/ IIITs/ GFTIs on the basis of their JEE Main 2023 ranks and in IITs based on their JEE Advanced 2023 ranks.
Q - If a candidate is a resident of Bihar and appears for the class XII exam in West Bengal, what will be his state code of eligibility?
A - For such a candidate, West Bengal will be his state code of eligibility and not Bihar since he has appeared in his class XII exams from there. The state code is basically on the place from where the candidate has qualified in the 10+2 exam and NOT on the native place or the place of residence of the candidate.
FAQs on JoSAA 2023 Application Process
Q - I have appeared in JEE Advanced also? Where should I put the details?
A - Use the JEE Advanced password to register in such a case so your details are captured. Anyway, the registration form does ask for all such details so you won't miss out.
Q - Will I have to pay any fees for JoSAA registration and filling up choices?
A - No, there will be no fees for JoSAA 2023 registration and filling up of choices.
Q - Will I be allowed to reshuffle the choices at any stage of seat allotment?
A - The reshuffling of choices will only be during the choice filling period before these choices are locked. No candidate will be allowed to reorder the choices selected after the specified time period.
Q - What will happen if I do not lock my choices?
A - Your last saved choices/ preferences will be locked automatically and taken into consideration within the time period specified.
JoSAA 2023 Seat Allocation FAQs
Q. What does JoSAA Dual Reporting mean?
A - If a candidate has accepted an allotted seat in an NIT+ Institute in round first and then in any subsequent round he or she is being allotted a seat in an IIT, then such a person will have to report to any one of the reporting centers of IITs for verification of documents. Similarly, if a candidate has accepted a seat in any of the IITs in one round and gets allotted in NIT+ institute, then again he/ she will have to report at any one of the NIT+ reporting centre. Otherwise, he/ she will have both the seats forfeited.
Q - How are seats allocated under JoSAA?
A - On the basis of candidates’ JEE Main 2023 ranks for NIT+ institutes, choices filled by them and availability of seats, JoSAA decides upon allocation of seats. For IITs, JEE Advanced ranks, choices filled by the candidates and availability of seats will be taken into consideration for seats allocation.
Q - Will there be any spot round or special round of JoSAA allotment?
A - No, the authorities will not conduct any spot round of seat allotment. However, after all 6 rounds of JoSAA 2023 seat allocation will be held, there will be a special round for NITs + institutes only. This will have new choice filling where all the candidates (including those who are already admitted, non-admitted, and those who did not fill choices earlier) will be allowed to fill their choices.
Q - Will candidates be required to report again, if they wish to upgrade?
A - Yes, it is mandatory for candidates to report if the upgradation is from an NIT+ Institute to IIT or vice-versa. If the upgradation is within the same system, they will not have to report again.
Q - Suppose, I have accepted my seat in NIT/ IIIT/ GFTI in round 1; now I got an offer from an IIT in subsequent rounds. What will happen to my previously allotted seat?
A - In this case, your accepted seat in NIT, IIIT or GFTI will be treated as forfeited.
Q - What will happen if there are multiple candidates with the same rank seeking admission to the same academic program?
A - All the candidates will be given equal preference, in such a case. If required, supernumerary seats will be created.
Q - What to do if I do not want to accept the allotted seat?
A - In such a case, you:
Should not pay the requisite seat acceptance fee (and not report at the JoSAA reporting center)
Should not report at the Reporting Center, If the seat acceptance fee has already been remitted.
Q - How to pay/ remit seat acceptance fee?
A - You can do that by using an e-challan at any branch of State Bank of India or by paying online using SBI Internet Banking.
Q - What does it mean by terms 'Freeze', 'Float' and 'Slide'?
A - As the seats will be allotted, candidates will have to mandatorily practice any of these three options to be able to retain the allocated seat or opt for a change in the seat as per
preference in any of the institutes or in the same institute in which the seat has been allocated.
Freeze: If the candidate is satisfied with the seat allocated and is not interested in participating in further rounds of seat allotment, he or she can accept it. That will be taken as freezing an option.
Float: In case, the candidate accepts the offered seat and wants to upgrade to a higher preferred seat it in any other institute, then he/ she will be required to select this option. If they fail to get the higher preferred seat, then they will have to continue with the currently accepted seat. Such candidates will be considered in further rounds of admission.
Slide: In case, if candidate accepts the seat offered and wishes to upgrade it to a higher preferred seat within the same institute, then he or she should opt for this.
Q. Can I appear in one or more rank lists?
A. Yes. Depending on your (birth) category and physical disability status and performance in the entrance examination, you may appear in more than one rank list and a maximum of four rank lists in each of JEE Main and JEE Advanced.
