IIT Madras BS programmes are open to all candidates, regardless of academic background and age.
Anyone who has passed Class 12 or equivalent can apply for IIT Madras BS Degree. Those who qualify can join the programme immediately.
School students who have appeared for their Class 11 final exams can apply irrespective of their group/stream/board. Those who qualify can join the program after passing Class 12.
The applicants must have studied Mathematics and English in Class 10.

Candidates interested in pursuing IIT Madras BS programmes can apply for admission in online mode. The IIT Madras 2026 BS application is open for May 2026 term. Admission to IIT Madras BS programmes is done based on regular entry and JEE-based entry.
Regular entry: Candidates, irrespective of their backgrounds, can get admission to the Foundation Level by successfully completing the qualifier process.
JEE-based entry: Candidates eligible to appear for the most recent JEE Advanced are directly admitted to the Foundation Level.
Learners who are eligible to appear for the qualifier exam will receive the hall ticket for the exam.
The qualifier exam will be conducted in-person at the end of 4 weeks of coursework of 4 hours duration and covers all 4 courses.
To pass the Qualifier Exam, the learner has to get a minimum Average Qualifier Exam Score and a minimum Qualifier Exam Score in each course individually.

The candidates who pass the IIT Madras Qualifier Exam will be allowed to register for Foundation Level. There will be limitations on the number of courses to register for in their first term based on the Average Qualifier Exam Score (M).

After the verification of your proof for JEE Advanced, you are eligible to directly start the foundation level courses.
Candidates have to register for courses (English 1, Maths 1, Statistics 1, Computational Thinking) by paying the course fees. They can register to 1/2/3/4 courses depending on their time.
The institute will inform the candidates of when they can register for courses.
Thereafter, candidates can continue the programme as a regular student.
Candidates can pursue IIT Madras BS Degree even as they join another college or degree.
