The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has announced the results for the BS in Data Science and Applications Qualifier Exam 1-1 (January 2026 session). The exam was conducted on March 15, 2026. The IIT Madras Data Science qualifier exam 2026 gives an opportunity for students to join India's top engineering college without a JEE score.

To pass the IIT Madras qualifier exam, candidates must meet two specific scoring areas: minimum score per subject and minimum required average qualifier exam score.

Students who pass the IIT Madras Qualifier Exam 1-1 will be eligible to register for Foundation Level of BS Degree in Data Science and Applications. The registration window for Foundation courses opens for two days.
The number of courses a student can register for Foundation Level is up to four, depending on their average qualifier exam score.

Candidates who did not clear the IIT Madras qualifier exam or were absent for it can re-attempt (Qualifier Exam 2-1) the qualifier exam in the same term without having to repeat the assignments.
To re-attempt the IIT Madras qualifier exam, candidates have to fill in the re-attempt application form that opens up immediately after the qualifier results and pay the re-attempt fee.

Candidates who are not eligible to re-attempt or do not clear the re-attempt exam can try again by applying again (Qualifier 2-2) for the next term. Those learners will be required to pay the full application fee of Rs 4,000 for general category applicants and go through the entire qualifier process including the weekly assignments and qualifier exam.
