Hi Kundan,

Yes , you can apply for the GATE Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA) exam even with a non-technical bachelor's degree, as long as you meet the general eligibility criteria. Here's what you need to know:

GATE Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Educational Qualification:

    • A bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, architecture, science, arts, or commerce is acceptable.
    • Since you are pursuing an MCA, you qualify as a postgraduate student, which makes you eligible to appear for the GATE exam.
  2. Current Students:

    • Students currently in the 3rd year or higher of their undergraduate degree or those in a postgraduate program (like MCA) can apply.
  3. No Restrictions on Background:

    • GATE does not explicitly require your bachelor's degree to be technical for most papers, including the DA paper. Your MCA provides you with the necessary technical grounding.

The cutoff for GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) varies each year based on the exam difficulty , number of candidates , and number of vacancies in PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings) and IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) . For the SC category , the cutoffs tend to be lower than the General category due to reservation policies.

Here is a general overview of the GATE cutoff trends for MT (Mining Engineering) in PSUs and IITs :

1. PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings):

  • PSUs like Coal India, NTPC, BHEL , etc., have their own GATE cutoff scores, which vary depending on the company and the year.
  • SC category cutoff for PSUs is typically around 20-30% lower than the General category cutoff .

2. IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology):

  • IITs use GATE scores for admission to their M.Tech programs, and the cutoff is different for each institute.
  • The SC category cutoff for M.Tech in Mining Engineering (MT) is usually between 25-40 marks (out of 100), depending on the IIT and the specific program.

Examples of Previous Year Trends:

  • For IITs like IIT Kharagpur , IIT Bombay , and IIT Delhi , the cutoff for M.Tech in Mining Engineering for SC category students ranged from 25 to 35 marks in recent years.
  • For PSUs , the cutoff can range anywhere from 35 to 45 marks in the SC category, but it varies by company and the number of vacancies available.

Key Points:

  • Check Official Websites : Always verify with the official websites of the PSUs or IITs you are targeting for updated and accurate cutoff details.
  • Reservation Benefits : SC candidates enjoy relaxation in GATE cutoff scores due to the reservation system, making it easier for them to qualify compared to the General category.

Since cutoffs change each year, tracking past trends and understanding the specific requirements of your targeted PSUs and IITs is crucial for planning your GATE preparation.

Thank you

A GATE score of 429 in Electrical Engineering (EE) is considered a valid and qualifying score; this means you have successfully cleared the GATE exam and are eligible to apply for various M.Tech programs in Electrical Engineering at different institutes depending on their specific cut-off marks.

If you are belongs to General category then it will be very tough to get admission in prestigious NITs. Then you can wait for spot counselling.

Thank you.

Hello,

To pursue an M.Tech at IITs after completing a B.Sc. (Hons) in Mathematics from Delhi University, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Eligibility for GATE :

    • A B.Sc. (Hons) Mathematics graduate is generally not eligible for GATE in engineering disciplines like Computer Science, Electrical, or Civil. However, you can apply for the Mathematics (MA) paper in GATE, which allows entry into M.Tech programs related to mathematics or interdisciplinary areas like Mathematical Sciences, Data Science, etc.
  2. Selection through GATE :

    • You need to clear GATE with a good rank in the Mathematics paper. IITs offer M.Tech courses in various mathematical sciences, applied mathematics, and computer science-related programs.
  3. Specific IIT Programs :

    • Some IITs offer M.Tech programs in areas where your background in mathematics is relevant, like M.Tech in Applied Mathematics or Computational Mathematics.
  4. Alternative Pathways :

    • Some IITs may have specific provisions for graduates from non-engineering backgrounds through a separate entrance process or qualifying exams.

Hope it helps !

Hi Shubhradev,

MSc students can indeed crack GATE and potentially land PSU jobs, though opportunities may be more limited compared to engineering graduates. Some PSUs do recruit MSc graduates with valid GATE scores, but eligibility criteria vary among organizations. Hence..

Yes, you can apply for PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) jobs with a valid GATE rank, even if you are pursuing an MSc in Electronics and Communication. While many PSUs primarily prefer candidates with a BTech or BE, several PSUs accept MSc graduates in specific disciplines like Electronics, Communication, and related fields.

The eligibility criteria can vary by PSU, so it's important to check the specific requirements for each organization. Some PSUs may allow MSc graduates to apply, especially if the GATE exam is in the relevant engineering discipline (like Electronics and Communication).

Keep an eye on PSU job notifications, as they often list specific qualifications and degree requirements. If you meet the criteria and have a good GATE score, you could have opportunities in various PSUs. You can check more on the given website of Careers360. All the best!

Hello,

Based on your GATE 2024 score of 226 in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) under the SC category, securing admission to IITs may be challenging due to the following considerations:

  • Qualifying Marks : The GATE 2024 qualifying cutoff for ECE in the SC category was 16.6 marks.

  • Admission Cutoffs : Admission cutoffs for IITs are typically higher than the qualifying marks and vary across institutes and specializations. For instance, in previous years, the cutoff scores for SC candidates in ECE-related M.Tech programs at IITs ranged significantly higher than your score.

  • Competition and Seat Availability : Admission to IITs is highly competitive, and candidates with higher GATE scores are generally preferred.

Recommendations :

  • Explore Other Institutes : Consider applying to National Institutes of Technology (NITs) or other reputable engineering colleges where the cutoff scores may align more closely with your GATE score.

  • Review Specific Cutoffs : Research the previous years' cutoffs for the specific institutes and programs you're interested in to assess your chances accurately.

  • Enhance Qualifications : If feasible, consider improving your GATE score in future attempts to increase the likelihood of admission to your desired institute.

While admission to IITs with a GATE score of 226 in the SC category is unlikely, exploring alternative institutes and programs can provide valuable opportunities for your academic and professional growth.

Hope it helps !

it is true that many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) recruit candidates based on their performance in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) exam, meaning you can get a PSU job through the GATE exam with msc electronics and communication essentially, a good GATE score opens doors to various PSU recruitment opportunities.

If you have high ranks like in top 300,than only you can get job in PSUs(Powergrid,BHEL,ONGC,NTPC etc.)

If your rank is under 2000 you can do masters from IITs/NITs with 12400 stipened per month. I addition with this Many private companies also consider if you are gate qualified for their recruitment.so its a win win situation if you crack gate with good rank.

You can use GATE TIPS AMD TRICKS to achieve good rank for PSUs recruitment.
