NTA JEE Main Result 2026- Normalisation Process

Because the JEE Main exam is conducted in different sessions and shifts, the level of difficulty also varies, and to deal with this, the authorities use the process of JEE normalisation. NTA releases the normalised JEE Main 2026 scores to indicate the percentage of examinees whose scores are equal to or below the scores of the candidate who scored the highest in that particular session. The formula used for the calculation of NTA scores for the JEE result 2026 session 1 is as follows:

Formula = (100 x number of candidates who appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than the candidate) / total number of candidates who appeared in that session

Aspirants may note that the normalised NTA score is not the same as that of the percentage of marks obtained in the JEE test.

JEE Main Result 2026 - How Percentile is Calculated?

The National Testing Agency calculates the scores of JEE Main 2026 for the percentile for individual subjects separately (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) as well as in the combined format using the normalisation formula as shown below.

    JEE Main 2026 Results Percentile

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to release official information consisting of a table to classify the range of percentiles as secured by students who appeared in the JEE Main 2026 paper. Students will be able to check their official percentile as per their appeared shift from the NTA press release when uploaded.

Understanding NTA Score vs Raw Score

Many aspirants often get confused between raw marks and the NTA score in JEE Main 2026. Raw marks are the actual scores a candidate secures based on the exam’s marking scheme. The NTA score, however, represents a percentile that indicates a candidate’s performance relative to other students who appeared in the same session. Since JEE Main is conducted across multiple shifts, a normalization process is applied to balance differences in difficulty levels, ensuring that all candidates are evaluated fairly regardless of their shift.

    JEE Main Result 2026 - Re-Evaluation/Re-Checking

National Testing Agency (NTA) will not entertain any request for re-evaluation/re-checking of the NTA JEE Main results 2026. The scores obtained by candidates in the results of JEE Main 2026 will be considered final.

Difference Between JEE Main Percentage and Percentile Score

When it comes to the JEE Main 2026 percentage and percentile, many students get confused and believe them to be common, while they are totally two different aspects. The JEE Main percentage is the result of absolute marking, while the percentile is calculated through relative marking.

Calculating JEE Main Percentage: (100 x Marks obtained by candidate) / Total marks

Calculating JEE Main Percentile 2026: (100 x Number of candidates in the session with aggregate marks less than that obtained by the candidate) / Total number of candidates who appeared in that session.

JEE Main 2026 Result by Name

NTA does not provide any provision to check the JEE Main results by name. Aspirants can check their JEE Mains result 2026 with the help of the application number and password alone.
