Based on Bennett University's 2024 JEE Main cutoffs, admission to B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) requires high percentiles. For CSE, a JEE Main percentile of 90 or above is typically needed, while AI programs may require a percentile of 85 or higher. With a 51% score, admission to these programs is unlikely. However, other engineering branches like Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Biotechnology have lower cutoff requirements, often accepting percentiles around 60 or even lower. Additionally, non-engineering courses such as BBA, BCA, and BA Journalism consider Class 12 scores and may offer alternative admission pathways. It's advisable to explore these options to align with your academic profile and avoid unnecessary expenses

With a JEE Main percentile of 92.2666, you have a strong chance of securing admission in the Mechanical Engineering branch at several NITs, particularly those categorized as Tier-2 and Tier-3 institutions.

Based on the 2024 data, the expected cutoff percentiles for Mechanical Engineering are as follows:

  • Tier-1 NITs : 97–98 percentile

  • Tier-2 NITs : 94–95 percentile

  • Tier-3 NITs : 80–85 percentile

Given your percentile, you are well-positioned for admission into Tier-2 and Tier-3 NITs. For instance, NIT Jalandhar had closing ranks for Mechanical Engineering around 44,615 in the open category .

Please note that actual cutoffs can vary based on factors such as category, home state quota, and seat availability. It's advisable to participate in all rounds of JoSAA counselling to maximize your chances of admission.

You cannot change your category from OBC (State) to General EWS during JoSAA counseling if your category is not listed in the central OBC list. Your category will be considered based on the documents provided during the JEE Advanced application process.

With an 85 percentile in JEE Main, you can consider the following engineering colleges in Chennai:

  • SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai : Offers various B.Tech programs including Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

  • IIITDM Kancheepuram : Provides B.Tech courses in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

  • BS Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai : Offers B.Tech programs in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

  • Rajalakshmi Institute of Technology, Chennai : Provides B.Tech courses in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

Admission to these colleges depends on various factors including the specific branch, seat availability, and category. It's advisable to check the individual college websites for detailed admission criteria and cutoffs.
