The expected JEE Main 2026 cutoff percentile is 93–95 for General, 80–82 for EWS, 79–81 for OBC-NCL, 60–63 for SC, 47–50 for ST, and 0.001–1 for UR-PwD. These cutoffs determine eligibility for JEE Advanced, while actual college admission depends on rank and counselling. According to JEE Advanced eligibility 2.5 lakh rule, the entire 2.5 lakh best students of all categories are allowed to attend JEE Advanced. Ranking of the candidates according to the percentile marks is done under the category-wise and each category has got set cutoffs. All applicants with a 30 mark or above will be in a position to do JEE Advanced. Because of the occurrence of tied percentiles, the overall number of successful candidates may reach slightly over 2.5 lakh.
The clearance in JEE Advanced is not a guarantee to admission in IIT. In the total number of eligible applicants 2.5 lakh:
Each branch and category will contain approximately 1300016000 IIT seats.
Around 0.5 to 1 percent of the JEE Advanced examinees (about 12,500 to 25,000 candidates) get an IIT seat.
The remaining 2.25+ lakh is also occupied with JoSAA counselling of NIT, IIIT and GFTI allocations.
